The activities attracted the participation of OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann, along with many Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Ambassadors, Permanent Delegation Heads, and senior representatives from OECD member countries and partner nations.

The discussions focused on strategic economic issues of international concern, such as enhancing supply chain resilience, ensuring energy security, promoting digital transformation, green transition, and developing sustainable value chains amid ongoing global economic fluctuations.

At the first-ever joint dialogue organized by the OECD between SEARP and LACRP on June 2, delegates emphasized the potential for cooperation between Southeast Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean in areas such as trade, investment, manufacturing, clean energy, strategic minerals, and digital transformation.

According to the OECD, Southeast Asia has strengths in manufacturing and global value chain integration, while Latin America and the Caribbean possess abundant natural resources, significant potential for renewable energy, and essential minerals for the green transition process.

The OECD views Vietnam as a prime example of an export-driven growth model linked to manufacturing development and deep integration into the global value chain. It also recognizes the Vietnam-Mexico trade relationship as one of the most dynamic trade corridors between the two regions.

Speaking at the dialogue, Ambassador Trinh Duc Hai praised the OECD's initiative to foster connectivity between Southeast Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two regions.

The Ambassador affirmed Vietnam's support for continued dialogue, experience sharing, and the implementation of specific cooperation initiatives between governments, businesses, and research institutions of the two regions within the OECD framework.

At the working breakfast between Southeast Asian countries and OECD partners, chaired by the Canadian Delegation to the OECD on June 3, Ambassador Trinh Duc Hai emphasized the importance of maintaining an open, transparent, rules-based, and predictable economic environment. He affirmed Vietnam's interest in enhancing supply chain resilience, strengthening energy security, developing sustainable trade, digital connectivity, and mobilizing green financial resources for the energy transition process.

The Ambassador highlighted that artificial intelligence and digital transformation are becoming crucial drivers for sustainable and inclusive growth in the region. He also proposed that the OECD and SEARP continue to leverage their strengths in research and evidence-based policy-making, enhancing mechanisms for information sharing, trend analysis, and early warnings for emerging economic risks to support regional countries in improving forecasting capabilities and responding to external shocks.

During the exchanges, OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann affirmed that strengthening engagement with Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific region is one of the OECD's top strategic priorities. Delegates also appreciated the increasingly important role of SEARP in promoting policy dialogue, experience sharing, and enhancing cooperation between the OECD and ASEAN countries.
