After more than 20 years in Japan, Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh, an overseas Vietnamese in Japan, returned to Vietnam for the first time to directly exercise his rights and duties as a citizen, participating in the election of the 16th National Assembly deputies and the People's Council deputies for the new term at polling station number 23, Thu Lam commune, Hanoi city.

Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh is currently the Principal of GAG Japanese Language Academy, a member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Honorary President of the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka, Japan, and General Secretary of the Global Network for Teaching Vietnamese Language and Culture.

“The moment I held the voter card, registered, and received the ballot was truly emotional for me. Before returning to Vietnam, while still abroad, I proactively sought information about the candidates through the election information system. Therefore, when I entered the polling room, I felt very confident in choosing the representatives I trust. I felt very happy and proud to directly cast my vote, fulfilling my responsibility as a voter to the country,” shared Dr, Nguyen Duy Anh.

He also expressed hope that the chosen candidates would become outstanding representatives, talented, dedicated, and visionary, representing the will and aspirations of the people, contributing to the strong development of the country in the new era, while paying more attention to the Vietnamese community abroad, who always look towards the homeland with affection, intellect, and responsibility.

Returning to Vietnam at a time when the entire country is jubilant for the grand event, Dr. Phan Bich Thien, Chairwoman of the Vietnamese Women's Forum in Europe and Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnamese Association in Hungary, shared: “For someone who has lived far from the homeland for many years like me, directly witnessing the bustling and responsible atmosphere everywhere makes me feel very emotional and proud. It helps me feel a deeper connection to the political life of the country.”

According to Dr. Phan Bich Thien, upon returning to Vietnam, she immediately sensed the clear election preparation atmosphere everywhere. From streets, residential areas to agencies and schools, all were decorated with panels, posters, and banners introducing the election day and the list of candidates. The preparation atmosphere was urgent yet joyful. In many residential areas, people exchanged information about the candidates and their action programs. This shows the high interest and responsibility of voters towards an important political event of the country.

“The registration and receipt of the voter card were also very quick and convenient. The ward officials proactively contacted me beforehand to inform and guide me specifically. I also noticed new things like the use of digital technology and apps for people to quickly update information. This shows that the digital transformation is spreading widely across various fields in the country,” shared Phan Bich Thien.

She also noted that this election holds special significance, as it is organized right after the 14th Party Congress with new strategic orientations and goals for the country's development in the coming period. Therefore, the new National Assembly and elected bodies will play a crucial role in institutionalizing major policies and directions into specific policies and legal systems.

According to Dr. Phan Bich Thien, Vietnam is entering a new development phase with many great opportunities but also new demands and challenges. Therefore, elected bodies—from the National Assembly to People's Councils at all levels—need to stay closely aligned with urgent societal and national issues.

The Hungarian overseas Vietnamese community hopes that the new National Assembly will always stay in touch with real-life situations, promptly address urgent societal and national issues, from sustainable economic development, improving education quality, science-technology to environmental protection and ensuring social welfare. The National Assembly needs to listen more to the people's voices so that decisions made truly reflect the needs and aspirations of society.

Having lived and worked in Singapore for over 10 years, Master Dinh Hoang Ha (Country Director of Hanbridge Academy Singapore, Executive Committee Member of the Ho Chi Minh City Overseas Vietnamese Liaison Association) shared: The previous election, his family missed the opportunity to return to Vietnam to vote due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. This time, he and his wife returned to Vietnam to vote as voters of Cho Lon ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

“From my observation, the election organization this year was thorough and spirited, with flags and flowers everywhere. Especially, social media was utilized to fully convey information to voters. The candidates had concise, clear, and quality action programs. I researched the background and action programs of each candidate, and thus identified those I trust to place my faith in. For me, personally casting my vote to select worthy representatives for the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels is an indescribable and sacred feeling,” said Master Dinh Hoang Ha.

On this occasion, he also proposed researching a voting mechanism for overseas voters. In the context of the technological revolution and digital transformation program in Vietnam progressing strongly, the Singaporean overseas Vietnamese community believes that organizing voting forms for overseas voters, such as voting at Embassies or Consulates or through VNeID, is entirely feasible. This not only facilitates overseas Vietnamese in exercising their citizen rights and duties but also contributes to making the national festival not only for Vietnamese in the country but a shared festival for Vietnamese worldwide.
