Today (Apr. 2), the Vietnam Denmark Friendship Association (VIDAFA) and the Embassy of Denmark, the two co-hosts of the Denmark in Your Eyes 2023 painting contest, jointly announced the names of sixty-two individual winners and three group prizewinners at an award ceremony in Hanoi.

The event brought together leaders and representatives of local agencies and organizations that supported the contest and a number of the contest winners together with their parents and teachers. The theme of the contest this year is ‘Green Future’.

"A key area of cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark is green growth and the transition to a more sustainable society. The Denmark in Your Eyes contest is a unique way for us to reach beyond the ongoing government-to-government cooperation of our Green Strategic Partnership and engage the children and youth of Vietnam. I am very encouraged by the 21,500 submissions to the contest. They are a testament to the great interest and strong commitment of the young Vietnamese generations in a green future for all. Their messages and stories remind us of the importance of involving, empowering and mobilising young generations to take action and make the changes they want to see in their communities and the world around them", said Ambassador of Denmark, Mr. Nicolai Prytz, at the award ceremony.

The contest received huge support from elementary and lower secondary school students nationwide in Vietnam.

More than 21,500 paintings and artworks were submitted from 256 schools and clubs in 42 provinces and cities. The high artistic quality of the submissions as well as the creative ideas behind them made it very difficult for the judges to select the best paintings to be awarded.

The panel of judges was comprised of acclaimed painters from Kim Dong Publishing House and Thieu Nien and Nhi Dong newspaper.

The grand prize went to Chu Ha Giang, a 6th grade student from Nguyen Gia Thieu School (Hanoi).

"Marine pollution is a risk that our world is facing. With ‘A Call from the Blue Ocean", I would like to call out for our joint efforts to save the ocean. Even small and simple deeds will count’ said Giang at the award ceremony.

The Union of Friendship Organizations of Can Tho city, Sentia Inter-level School and Nguyen Sieu Primary School in Hanoi won the group prizes.

The Denmark in Your Eyes 2023 painting contest is co-hosted by the Embassy of Denmark and the Vietnam – Denmark Friendship Association (VIDAFA) with valuable support from the Ministry of Education and Training, Kim Dong Publishing House, Thieu Nien Tien Phong and Nhi Dong Newspapers and My Kingdom – Lego Vietnam. JYSK, a Danish Furniture Retail Chain, is the main sponsor of the competition.

The first Denmark in Your Eyes competition, co-hosted by the Embassy of Denmark and the Vietnam – Denmark Friendship Association (VIDAFA), took place in 2016 during the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Denmark. The competition has since then been organized every one or two years with a new theme, but always with a strong focus on environmental issues.
