Vietnam’s overseas investment triples to nearly $490 million in first half of 2025

Vietnamese enterprises are ramping up their global presence, launching 86 new overseas ventures in the first half of 2025, three times higher than the same period last year, according to the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Finance.

In the first six months of 2025, Vietnam’s total overseas investment — including both newly registered and adjusted capital — reached 487.1 million USD, 3.6 times higher than the same period in 2024. Key sectors included electricity, gas, hot water, steam, and air conditioning production and distribution (111.2 million USD), transportation and warehousing (78.5 million USD), and wholesale, retail, and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (76.8 million USD).

In the first half of the year, 30 countries and territories received Vietnamese investment. Laos was the largest recipient, with $150.3 million, representing 30.9 per cent of the total. The Philippines came closely behind with $61.8 million, accounting for 12.7 per cent. Indonesia ranked third with $60.5 million, making up 12.4 per cent.
