On October 14, speaking at an ASEAN Seminar held at Belgrano University (UBE) in Buenos Aires, Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina Ngo Minh Nguyet affirmed that the achievements of Doi Moi (Renewal) have driven Vietnam’s economy to achieve high growth rates, expand deep international integration, and move toward the group of upper-middle-income countries.

In response to a question from students of UBE’s School of International Relations about Vietnam’s Doi Moi process, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet emphasized that, building on nearly 40 years of renewal achievements, Vietnam’s current reforms aim to enhance institutional efficiency, accelerate digital transformation, improve the business environment, and develop human resources. These reforms are designed to sustain Vietnam’s growth trajectory, enhance productivity, foster sustainable development, and gradually move toward the goal of becoming a high-income country.

The Ambassador also briefed participants on Vietnam’s recent efforts to streamline the organizational apparatus and implement the two-tier local government model. These efforts have produced highly positive initial results, creating major breakthroughs and new economic spaces that have fostered the emergence of key industrial, tourism, and free-trade zones, as well as dynamic economic regions across the country — laying a solid foundation for Vietnam’s next phase of robust development.

In response to a question regarding U.S. tariff policy, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet stated that, under the spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the United States, the two sides are negotiating a reciprocal trade agreement based on mutual respect, with the goal of achieving fair, sustainable trade that serves the interests of both peoples and businesses.

Ambassador Nguyet also highlighted the strong and wide-ranging development of Vietnam–U.S. relations over the past 30 years since the normalization of ties in 1995, particularly in the areas of economy, trade, and investment. The two countries established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023, and the United States is now one of Vietnam’s leading trading partners. At the regional level, ASEAN–U.S. relations have enjoyed 53 years of dynamic development, with the partnership being elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022.

In his remarks as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Buenos Aires (ACBA), Thai Ambassador Krit Tankanarat emphasized the role of ACBA in connecting academia and business communities, as well as in strengthening cooperation between Argentina and Southeast Asian countries.
