At noon on October 28 (local time), General Secretary To Lam had a discussion with technology experts from the UK and around the world on artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors.
In his welcoming remarks at the beginning of the discussion, the General Secretary affirmed that the relationship between Vietnam and the UK over the past 50 years has always been based on mutual trust and respect. He stated that this visit to the UK aims to promote substantive, extensive, and effective cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.

Highlighting the world’s remarkable advancements in science and technology, especially as AI becomes a key driver of economic growth, innovation, and transformation of development models for nations, the General Secretary expressed a desire to collaborate with advanced countries to share a common vision and values to build a better world. He emphasized that AI should serve humanity, making people more intelligent, creative, compassionate, and fostering peace and prosperity.
The head of the Communist Party of Vietnam stressed that Vietnam always welcomes and is ready to embrace and experiment with pioneering and groundbreaking ideas from experts and scientists to create new models and values for humanity in the AI era.

During the discussion, technology experts noted that globally, few countries are as dynamically developing as Vietnam. In just one generation, the S-shaped country has lifted millions out of poverty, transforming into one of Asia’s most competitive manufacturing economies with a young and digitally skilled workforce.
Experts particularly highlighted that advancements in administrative reforms and openness in international cooperation have positioned Vietnam as a key partner in the global network of reliable digital nations.

However, some experts also recommended that for AI to truly serve socio-economic development and improve people's lives, governments need to focus on building reliable digital infrastructure and developing responsible AI standards that protect privacy, fairness, and transparency.
Impressed by the insights and ideas shared by experienced experts and managers in AI during the discussion, the General Secretary found these topics highly relevant to Vietnam's development goals and directions.
He stated that relevant agencies will be tasked with researching and collaborating to clarify the content, moving towards implementing specific steps to turn ideas into projects and programs in Vietnam.
Emphasizing that the discussion marks a meaningful beginning and will pave the way for a long-term, profound cooperation journey between Vietnam and the intellectual elite of the UK and the world, the General Secretary expressed a desire for experts to continue supporting Vietnam in AI development and science and technology in general. This includes sharing knowledge and experience in national AI strategy planning, digital infrastructure development, and innovation ecosystem.
