The visit by General Secretary To Lam and his spouse is at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Keir Starmer.
The delegation includes Politburo Member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission Nguyen Duy Ngoc; Politburo Member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilization Nguyen Trong Nghia; Politburo Member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh; Politburo Member, Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang; Politburo Member, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang; Central Committee Member, Chief of the Party Central Office Pham Gia Tuc; Central Committee Member, Minister of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung; Central Committee Member, Government Inspector General Doan Hong Phong; Central Committee Member, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang; Central Committee Member, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung; Central Committee Member, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son; Central Committee Member, Governor of the State Bank Nguyen Thi Hong; Assistant to the General Secretary, Head of the General Secretary's Office To An Xo; and Vietnamese Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Do Minh Hung.
This is the first visit by the General Secretary to the UK in 12 years, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries (2010-2025). The UK is a global power, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, and a leading nation in science and technology, defense and security, finance, and innovation.
The visit by General Secretary To Lam is expected to create new breakthroughs in cooperation between the two countries, especially in areas where they have complementary strengths and potential. This visit aims to effectively implement the core resolutions of the Politburo on the development of science and technology and innovation, promote deep and comprehensive international integration, improve institutional frameworks, develop the private economic sector, enhance education and training, improve public health, and ensure national energy security. These efforts align with Vietnam's vision for sustainable development and long-term strategy, aiming towards a new era of dynamic and innovative growth.
In an interview prior to the official visit to the UK by General Secretary To Lam and his spouse, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang expressed confidence that the visit will open a new chapter in cooperation between the two countries with long-term, sustainable development orientations, aligning with the interests and strengths of each nation, for the benefit of the people and comprehensive development of each country, as well as for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in each region and globally.
