Vietnam, Netherlands hold political consultation to expand cooperation in strategic areas

In an open and sincere atmosphere, the two sides updated each other on developments in their respective countries and reviewed bilateral cooperation results since the previous consultation. They expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far in delegation exchanges at various levels, close coordination and mutual support for each other's initiatives and candidacy at regional and international forums, efforts to facilitate business activities, and the effective use of existing mechanisms to address issues in bilateral relations.
Sharing the development orientation for the new phase, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang provided information on Vietnam's strategic goals to become a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030, and a developed, high-income country by 2045.
To achieve these goals, Vietnam's focus for the 2026-2030 period is to maintain high and sustainable growth based on core foundations of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation. On this basis, the Deputy Minister of Vietnam called for deeper and more substantive implementation of the Vietnam – Netherlands Comprehensive Partnership and their sectoral strategic partnerships.

The Deputy Minister proposed that both sides boost trade and investment cooperation, considering the Netherlands as one of Vietnam's leading partners in Europe.
Vietnam hopes the Netherlands will continue to be a reliable partner in sustainable agriculture, climate change adaptation, and the circular economy, while expanding cooperation in Vietnam's priority areas such as digital transformation, green transition, science and technology, and innovation...
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang urged the Netherlands and other EU member states to soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and support the European Commission in lifting the IUU Yellow Card for Vietnamese seafood.
For his part, Dutch Deputy Foreign Minister Marcel de Vink appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, affirming that the Netherlands always values its cooperative relationship with Vietnam, an important and trusted partner in the Asia-Pacific region. He expressed admiration for Vietnam's high development goals and affirmed the Netherlands' desire to accompany Vietnam in realizing these development objectives.
Building on the positive cooperation results achieved so far, Deputy Minister Marcel de Vink agreed with Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang's proposals to enhance exchanges and dialogues at all levels and closely coordinate at multilateral forums.
The Dutch Deputy Minister said that the Netherlands wishes to organize large-scale business delegations to Vietnam to explore cooperation and investment opportunities; will continue to accompany Vietnam in the green transition, digital transformation, and circular economy development; and welcomes the expansion of cooperation in science and technology, high technology, semiconductor industry, artificial intelligence, high-quality human resource training, and the implementation of joint research programs between the two sides.

In the fields of security-defense, justice, culture-tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, both sides agreed to continue promoting effective existing cooperation activities, consider new cooperation agreements, expand capacity-building cooperation, share experiences, and provide professional training; encourage cultural exchanges, tourism, people-to-people exchanges, local cooperation, and business promotion.
On regional and international issues of mutual concern, both sides affirmed their support for multilateralism and free trade, resolving disputes and conflicts through peaceful means based on international law and the United Nations Charter; and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
