Vietnam, Germany aim to elevate bilateral ties

During the conversation, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son congratulated Minister Wadephul on his recent appointment as Germany’s Foreign Minister. He acknowledged Germany’s important role and influence within the European Union and on the global stage, affirming that Germany remains one of Vietnam’s key partners in Europe.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the positive progress in bilateral cooperation and proposed major directions to further deepen and substantiate the Vietnam–Germany Strategic Partnership. Areas highlighted for further collaboration include political-diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, education and training, sustainable development, and people-to-people exchanges.

Foreign Minister Wadephul praised Vietnam’s impressive socio-economic progress and expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in bilateral relations. He reaffirmed Germany’s strong commitment to deepening its friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam. Minister Wadephul emphasized that the German government and business community stand ready to partner closely with Vietnam in key priority areas, particularly in advancing the energy transition.

Both sides underlined the importance of elevating the bilateral relationship at an early date, expanding market access, and expediting the ratification of the EU–Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement. They also agreed to advance scientific and technological cooperation as a new pillar of the partnership, particularly in clean energy, nanotechnology, quantum technology, semiconductors, and digital transformation. Further cooperation in education and vocational training was also prioritized.

The two ministers agreed to continue close coordination in organizing meaningful activities to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025. They also discussed preparations for upcoming high-level visits and exchanges to enhance mutual understanding and strategic cooperation.

On regional and international issues of shared concern, including the East Sea, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to resolving disputes through peaceful means and dialogue, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son extended an invitation to Minister Wadephul to pay an official visit to Vietnam. Minister Wadephul gladly accepted the invitation.
