On December 8, in response to a reporter's question regarding Vietnam's stance on the escalating tensions between Cambodia and Thailand at their border, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized that Vietnam expresses deep concern over the current situation.
The Spokesperson highlighted that as a neighbouring country and a fellow ASEAN member, Vietnam calls on both parties to exercise utmost restraint, refrain from using force, fully implement the ceasefire agreement, and continue dialogue to peacefully and satisfactorily resolve disputes based on the fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), and in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity. This contributes to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
“Vietnam will continue to actively contribute to promoting dialogue and implementing the ceasefire agreement between the two countries to swiftly restore peace and cooperation at the border, in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, for the long-term benefit of both parties and the region,” the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson stated.
