Vietnam calls for solutions for a just and sustainable peace in Gaza at UN Security Council discussion

WVR - On October 23, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA, an Open Debate of the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East and Palestine took place under the chairmanship of the Ambassador, Head of the Russian Delegation – the rotating President for October 2025. The session was attended and addressed by representatives from over 70 UN member states.

During the discussion, countries welcomed the announcement and implementation of Phase I of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, considering it a significant step forward, opening opportunities for peace after more than two years of conflict. Many nations emphasized the importance of subsequent steps, including enhancing humanitarian efforts, deploying international monitoring, establishing interim governance mechanisms, and moving towards a capable Palestinian administration to ensure sustainable peace in Gaza.

Speaking at the meeting, Diplomatic Minister Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Acting Chargé d'Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas forces, appreciating the mediation and reconciliation efforts by countries that led to this significant breakthrough. The Vietnamese representative called on the parties involved to strictly adhere to the agreement, exercise maximum restraint, and avoid any actions that could derail the peace process; emphasizing the role of the United Nations, particularly the Security Council, in promoting compliance with international law, relevant UN resolutions, as well as provisional measures and advisory opinions of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The Acting Chargé d'Affaires of the Vietnam Delegation highlighted the importance of ensuring timely and unobstructed humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza; affirming support for the essential role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in coordinating and delivering aid in Gaza. Reiterating Vietnam's steadfast stance supporting the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the two-state solution, Diplomatic Minister Nguyen Hoang Nguyen welcomed the adoption of the “New York Declaration” at the International Conference on a Peaceful Solution for the Palestinian Issue co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia at the end of September 2025.

On this occasion, Vietnam affirmed its support and readiness to actively contribute to international efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip based on respect for national sovereignty, international law principles, and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
