Vietnam Buddhist Sangha supports post-disaster recovery in Sri Lanka via Sri Lankan Embassy in Vietnam

WVR - On December 17, a delegation from the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), led by Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, visited the Sri Lankan Embassy in Vietnam and donated a humanitarian contribution of 200 million VND to support Sri Lanka's disaster relief and recovery efforts following the recent Ditwah cyclone.

The VBS expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the government and people of Sri Lanka, highlighting compassion, solidarity, and shared Buddhist values that commemorate the longstanding friendship between the two nations.

Sri Lankan Ambassador to Vietnam Poshitha Perera expressed sincere gratitude for the timely support, acknowledging its importance as Sri Lanka continues its recovery and infrastructure relief efforts. Both sides emphasized that this gesture further strengthens bilateral relations and reaffirms their commitment to enhancing people-to-people and Buddhist exchanges between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

Previously, on December 2, the Sri Lankan government earnestly called for support from the Sri Lankan community in Vietnam, as well as Vietnamese citizens and foreigners residing in Vietnam, to assist in overcoming the aftermath of the recent tropical storm.

"Your contributions will play a crucial role in the ongoing relief activities and help affected communities stabilize their lives soon. The Sri Lankan government deeply appreciates the solidarity and invaluable sympathy extended during this challenging period," stated the Sri Lankan government's appeal.

The Sri Lankan Ministry of Finance has authorized Sri Lankan representative offices to receive monetary donations through the embassy's bank account and transfer them to Sri Lanka via the General Deposit Account (GDA).

On December 4, upon learning about the significant damage caused by heavy rains and floods due to Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka, President Luong Cuong sent a message of sympathy to President Anura Kumara Disanayaka, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a message of sympathy to Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya. On the same day, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung sent a message of sympathy to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath.
