The announcement was made by New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) on November 13. Many provinces in the northern and central regions of Vietnam have suffered severe damage caused by natural disasters and floods. These disasters have seriously threatened lives and disrupted normal living conditions in many localities across the country.
This funding will support New Zealand NGOs to partner with their Vietnam counterparts through the New Zealand disaster response Partnership to deliver assistance in alignment with the Vietnam: Joint response Plan for multiple typhoons and floods.
New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Caroline Beresford said: “Our hearts go out to the families and communities affected by these disasters. As a comprehensive strategic partner of Vietnam, New Zealand stands in solidarity with the Vietnamese government and people during this challenging time. We hope our support will swiftly reach those in need, contributing to emergency efforts and helping affected communities rebuild their lives”.
Previously, at a regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 6, spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized that the condolences and financial support, rescue equipment, and essential supplies from many countries and international organizations are invaluable resources and timely assistance from the international community to help the people of Vietnam's provinces quickly overcome their losses and stabilize their lives. Additionally, Pham Thu Hang affirmed: "The Government and people of Vietnam deeply appreciate this valuable support and heartfelt assistance. Through this, we can see the solidarity in joining hands with the Government and people of Vietnam to overcome difficulties and restore normal life".
