During the meeting, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung provided updates on Thailand's situation and recent bilateral cooperation results. Notably, Vietnam is increasingly becoming a favorite destination for Thai people, especially the youth; people-to-people exchanges, economic, trade, and tourism cooperation continue to be vigorously promoted.

The Ambassador noted that 2026 will mark the 50th anniversary of Vietnam–Thailand diplomatic relations (1976–2026), and both countries are actively preparing meaningful commemorative activities.

On this occasion, the Ambassador suggested that the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (MCST) coordinate support to organize more exchange activities, enhancing understanding and strengthening the friendship between the two nations. The Ambassador also expressed joy in attending the meeting with the Vietnamese Sports Delegation on the morning of December 9 and is confident that the athletes will compete successfully, bringing glory to the homeland.

Responding to the Ambassador, Minister Nguyen Van Hung stated that from December 8, he was assigned by the Prime Minister to attend the opening ceremony of SEA Games 33 (evening of December 9) in Thailand and will immediately return to Vietnam after the ceremony to continue the 10th session of the 15th National Assembly.

Despite the short time, as per the usual practice of foreign missions, the Minister always makes time to visit the Embassy – the common home for Vietnamese people abroad. The Minister thanked the Embassy for coordinating and supporting the Vietnamese Sports Delegation and hopes the connection between the Ministry and the Embassy will continue to be strengthened.

In discussions with the Ambassador, Minister Nguyen Van Hung emphasized the consistent stance of the Party and State on three pillars of diplomacy; international cooperation is always based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit, for peace and development. The Minister stated that in the new context, culture and people-to-people exchanges are increasingly identified as important "soft bridges", creating a sustainable foundation for all international relationships. Only culture has the ability to connect, spread, and preserve long-term cooperative values.

The Minister analyzed that nations first recognize Vietnam through its cultural depth and the beauty of its people, thereby sparking interest in its economy, trade, and tourism.

Even in the economic field, the Minister emphasized the need to build a healthy "business culture" – adhering to the law, sharing benefits, jointly bearing risks – as a characteristic of Vietnamese enterprises when cooperating abroad. This is what strengthens relationships, showcasing the "depth of Vietnamese culture" in international conduct and cooperation.

For the Vietnamese community in Thailand, the Minister affirmed the crucial role of preserving the Vietnamese language – the core of national identity. Quoting the view "Culture remains, the nation remains", the Minister emphasized that spreading national cultural values should be persistently carried out, relying on the community and through exchange, art, and educational activities.

Minister Nguyen Van Hung stated that the Politburo is about to issue a Resolution on developing Vietnamese culture in the new era, setting forth major requirements, including the task of "internationalizing Vietnamese culture" – bringing Vietnamese culture to the world and selectively absorbing global quintessence. This will be an important direction to enhance cultural cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand.

Regarding the Ambassador's proposal for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the Minister considered it entirely appropriate. The MCST will assign the Department of International Cooperation to work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to propose practical activities, initially considering organizing "Vietnam Culture Day in Thailand" and "Thailand Culture Day in Vietnam".

The Minister also suggested expanding it into a "Vietnam–Thailand Culture–Sports–Tourism Festival", including a tourism forum, destination connection, promotion, sports exchanges, and joint art programs. This will be a comprehensive activity, helping to enhance understanding and promote multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

Concluding the meeting, the Minister hopes the Embassy will continue to accompany and support the Vietnamese Sports Delegation during SEA Games 33; meanwhile, encouraging the overseas community to care for and share the spirit with the athletes, providing additional motivation for them to achieve the highest results.
