The exercises, running daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (local time), aim to ensure the highest level of safety for attending leaders and delegations from all 10 ASEAN member states, while also testing the readiness of national security forces.
According to Malaysia’s national news agency, Deputy Director-General of the National Security Council Datuk Baharuddin Ahmad, the drills will simulate various high-risk scenarios, including ambushes. “Some roads may be closed temporarily, and the training will involve heavy machinery and personnel such as Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) troops,” he noted.
More than 13 government bodies are involved in the summit preparations, including the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Fire and Rescue Department, and several other agencies and ministries.
The 46th ASEAN Summit is expected to bring together Southeast Asian leaders to address key regional challenges, promote economic cooperation, and reaffirm shared commitments to inclusiveness and sustainable development.
