On the night of September 20, the international music competition Intervision 2025 took place at the Live Arena stage in Moscow, Russia. This year, Vietnam made its debut in the competition with young singer Duc Phuc.

Just before the Intervision 2025 event, singer Đức Phúc engaged in a cultural exchange at the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia. After discussing the role of cultural bridges and the significance of culture in diplomacy, Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi presented the delegation with iconic Russian souvenirs as a gesture of goodwill for the upcoming competition.

At Intervision 2025, Duc Phuc is among the singers with the least experience. Although he is a well-known name among Vietnamese youth today, competing in a prestigious event like Intervision requires meeting various criteria.

According to Ha Minh Thang, Deputy Director of the Performing Arts Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, participants are required to possess a prominent, exemplary voice and have previously won at least one championship in Vietnam. The second criterion is to have a distinctive style, and the third - closely monitored by the Ministry - is that candidates must demonstrate dedication, responsibility, and wholehearted commitment to the competition.

Recognising the competition as a rare opportunity, Duc Phuc commissioned composer Ho Hoai Anh to create the song "Phu Dong Thien Vuong", inspired by the poem "Tre Viet Nam" by poet Nguyen Duy.

According to Duc Phuc, “Phu Dong Thien Vuong” represents Vietnam through music and will be performed on a stage that fully embodies Vietnamese culture.

Intervision emphasises cultural identity, from the language of the song to the performers’ costumes. At the same time, the organisers also value universal themes in the content.

The lyrics of “Phu Dong Thien Vuong” are heroic, brimming with determination and enduring resolve, like the bamboo of Vietnam, like the Vietnamese people who have for millennia overcome every challenge with steadfastness. Although the song is in Vietnamese, the music and Duc Phuc’s powerful voice are expected to convey the song’s spirit to audiences fully.

During the recording session, Duc Phuc received numerous compliments and sustained applause. All details and images of the competition have been kept confidential to ensure the audience experiences the performance fully. Twenty-three contestants representing 23 countries will seek to impress a jury composed of renowned cultural and artistic figures from the participating nations.

Vietnam’s representative on the jury is composer Trong Dai. He stated that while there are many scoring criteria, the most important is whether the work touches the audience emotionally. Interestingly, the scoring criteria for artistic works were developed by a mathematician to minimise subjective or biased judgments.

After a 30-year hiatus, Intervision 2025 has received substantial investment to ensure a truly spectacular comeback. Audiences are promised a unique feast of music and art, yet this also presents significant pressure for the contestants, especially as it is Vietnam’s first time participating.

Fortunate and proud to represent Vietnam on the international music stage, Duc Phuc carries a strong determination to deliver a performance that will impress both international audiences and viewers in Vietnam, offering a spectacular, explosive and emotionally complete stage show.
