On the Thai side, leaders from the provinces of Phuket, Songkhla, Ranong, and Phang Nga, as well as representatives from the government, associations, and businesses in Southern Thailand, were present.

In his speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung emphasized that the event took place in the context of Vietnam and Thailand celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations. From the foundation of strong ties between the peoples of the two countries, the bilateral relationship has evolved into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and continues to be elevated following the official visit to Thailand by General Secretary and President To Lam (May 2026) and the visit to Vietnam by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul (June 2026). The Ambassador expressed confidence that the relations between the two countries will continue to achieve new milestones in the future.

Congratulating Mr. Thaneth Tantipiriyakij on his appointment as the Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Phuket, responsible for eight provinces in Southern Thailand, the Ambassador affirmed that this appointment recognizes his reputation, capability, and contributions to promoting Vietnam-Thailand cooperation.

According to the Ambassador, Phuket is not only a famous tourist destination but also a crucial economic gateway in the Andaman region, playing a role in connecting Vietnam with Southern Thailand and ASEAN. The establishment of the first Honorary Consulate Office of Vietnam in Phuket demonstrates a commitment to enhancing cooperation with the region, while also meeting the growing demand for consular services and support for the Vietnamese community living, studying, and working in Southern Thailand.

The Ambassador affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangkok will closely coordinate and provide all necessary conditions for the Office to fulfill its duties effectively.

On behalf of the local government, Phuket Deputy Governor Romdon Hamae-a-wae assessed that the establishment of the Honorary Consulate of Vietnam in Phuket marks a new milestone in Vietnam-Thailand relations and reflects Phuket's increasingly important role as a strategic gateway in the Andaman region.
