The Hung Kings' Commemoration is not only a day to remember the ancestors' merits but also an occasion for the Vietnamese community in Canada to meet, connect, and remind each other of their national roots. This fosters a sense of national pride and love for the homeland among every Vietnamese living abroad.

On April 19, the Vietnamese Embassy in Canada organized the Hung Kings' Death Anniversary ceremony in a solemn and warm atmosphere, attracting a large number of overseas Vietnamese from various regions to participate.

This activity not only reflects the principle of “drinking water, remembering the source” but also serves as an opportunity for the Vietnamese community in Canada to strengthen their bonds, preserve their national identity, and maintain a connection to their homeland.

The gathering of people from various regions in Canada for the national commemoration day clearly demonstrates the solidarity and unity of the Vietnamese community abroad.

In the sacred space, the national roots become a spiritual anchor, reminding every Vietnamese living, studying, and working abroad to always remember the ancestors' contributions and their national origins, thereby living more responsibly with the community and the homeland.

Phan Quynh Trang, a Vietnamese expatriate in Toronto, believes this activity is meaningful for the Vietnamese community in Canada, helping them always remember their cultural identity and national roots. It also gradually nurtures the younger generation born abroad to understand their origins, even if they have never returned to Vietnam.

Sharing the same sentiment, Chung Vinh, a Vietnamese expatriate in Ottawa, stated that the main purpose of the Hung Kings' Death Anniversary is for everyone to remember their national roots. According to him, all participants were very moved and proud to attend the event in traditional Vietnamese attire.

Tran Hoa Phuong, a Vietnamese expatriate in Toronto, also shared that this is an occasion for the community to be proud of being Vietnamese, descendants of the Hung Kings, and to clearly understand the responsibility of the older generation in passing down the Vietnamese language, customs, and cultural beauty to their descendants.

Beyond remembering the ancestors, the Hung Kings' Death Anniversary is also an opportunity for communities from various regions and associations to reflect on their achievements, share ideas, and learn from each other to work towards the common goal of building a more developed, united, and strong Vietnamese community.

According to Quynh Trang, such gatherings provide groups with the opportunity to exchange and learn from each other, creating more uniformity in promoting the expatriate community. This also allows them to contribute more positively to Canadian society and affirm the position, intelligence, and unity of the Vietnamese people.

The event also left a deep impression on international friends attending. Fernando Coelho, from Portugal, expressed his emotions when attending the event, drawing parallels to the cultural and linguistic exchanges between Vietnam and Portugal, linked to the role of Portuguese missionaries in forming the foundation of Vietnam's national script.

For him, the most important aspect was not understanding every speech at the ceremony but feeling what was happening around him. It was a sense of understanding that transcended language barriers and an experience he would carry with him throughout his life.

If historically, cultural encounters contributed to creating a means to preserve and spread the Vietnamese language, then today, events like the Hung Kings' Death Anniversary continue to preserve and spread the Vietnamese spirit beyond borders.

This also demonstrates that understanding between people is not only built through language but is also nurtured by empathy for shared cultural and spiritual values.

The sincere feelings of the expatriate community and international guests once again show that, despite being far from the homeland, national roots remain a strong bond connecting the Vietnamese community. This also helps bring the image of Vietnam's land, people, and culture closer to international friends.
