During the meeting, General Secretary To Lam congratulated David Lammy on his appointment as UK Deputy Prime Minister and expressed appreciation for his ongoing commitment to fostering relations with Vietnam.
The General Secretary said that he held discussions with the UK Prime Minister and parliamentary leaders to explore major strategies and measures to enhance the comprehensive and robust development of bilateral relations across all channels, including the Party, State, Government, Parliament, and the public.
As the first UK leader to meet General Secretary To Lam following the official upgrade of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy was urged to promptly establish an Action Plan post-visit. This plan aims to swiftly consolidate existing cooperation mechanisms and establish new necessary frameworks to boost collaboration, enhance political trust, achieve the trade target of 15 billion USD, and identify and implement key flagship projects that reflect the excellent bilateral relationship.
Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy emphasized that the elevation of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership marks a historic moment, affirming the long-standing friendly relations and immense potential for stronger ties between the two nations.
Expressing a desire for prioritized cooperation in economic-trade, defense-security, energy, innovation, aviation, and maritime safety, Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy confirmed support for facilitating visa issuance for skilled workers.
Wishing for UK government leaders to visit Vietnam soon to enhance exchanges and cooperation, General Secretary extended an invitation to Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy to visit Vietnam in the near future, which he gladly accepted.
Prior to the meeting, General Secretary To Lam and the Deputy Prime Minister met with the leadership of the Vietnam-UK Friendship Network, chaired by Mark Kent, former UK Ambassador to Vietnam.
Established in 2013, the Vietnam-UK Friendship Network comprises organizations and individuals in the UK interested in Vietnam, aiming to promote cooperation in various fields, including trade, education, cultural exchange, and more, thereby strengthening understanding and friendship between the people and institutions of both countries.
