At the invitation of Governor-General of Australia Sam Mostyn and Governor-General of New Zealand Cindy Kiro, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, will pay state visits to Australia and New Zealand from August 9-14, 2026.
The visits occur as Vietnam's relations with both Australia and New Zealand are positively developing across various fields, including politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, investment, education, science and technology, and innovation.
Regarding Australia, the two countries currently maintain over 20 bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including high-level dialogues between the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 2025, bilateral trade reached approximately 14 billion USD, while cooperation in investment, education, and development aid continues to expand. Additionally, Australia is one of Vietnam's leading trade and education partners.
Meanwhile, Vietnam-New Zealand relations continue to be promoted based on a comprehensive strategic partnership. Specifically, in 2025, total bilateral trade reached 1.5 billion USD, an increase of 15.8% compared to the previous year; in the first six months of 2026 alone, it reached 844.4 million USD, up 14.6%. Moreover, the two countries are actively expanding cooperation in agriculture, education, trade, and investment.
The visits are expected to provide further impetus to enhance relations between Vietnam and Australia and New Zealand, while also expanding cooperation in priority areas such as digital transformation, science and technology, innovation, green economy, trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.
