During the Political Consultation held on the morning of July 28, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang provided an update on Vietnam's recent economic and social situation and future development directions. He expressed delight at the continuously strengthened and enhanced relations between the two countries over the past 51 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations (August 28, 1975).

The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam always values Panama's role and position in the Latin American region and hopes that the traditional friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries will grow stronger and more effective. This will leverage the economic strengths and strategic geographical positions of Panama and Vietnam as two bridges connecting the economies of Latin America and ASEAN.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama Carlos Arturo Hoyos shared information about Panama's situation and the recent socio-economic achievements of the Panamanian government amidst current challenges. He affirmed that Panama always remembers and appreciates Vietnam as one of the first countries to sign the Protocol on the permanent neutrality of the Panama Canal. He highly valued Vietnam's socio-economic and foreign achievements in recent times and expressed a desire to strengthen and enhance the multifaceted friendship and cooperation with Vietnam, especially in economics, trade, and investment. Panama is ready to act as a gateway for Vietnam to develop relations with the Latin American region and wishes to access and expand relations with Southeast Asia through Vietnam.

The leaders of the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs reviewed and assessed the areas of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two Ministries. They agreed on directions and measures to elevate the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries to a new, more substantive, and sustainable level.

Both sides agreed to promote and substantively prepare for high-level visits and contacts, effectively utilize cooperation mechanisms such as Political Consultation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Joint Committee on Economic, Trade, and Investment. They aim to enhance exchanges between ministries, sectors, localities, and business communities of the two countries. They will coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors to promote negotiations and sign cooperation agreements in potential areas such as trade, investment, customs, agriculture, tourism, maritime, and education to complete the legal framework for bilateral cooperation.

The two sides had extensive exchanges on international and regional issues of mutual concern, agreeing to continue consultations, close coordination, and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums where Vietnam and Panama are members.

Earlier, on the morning of July 28, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama paid a courtesy call to Politburo Member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung. During the visit, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama also held working meetings with Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Nguyen Quang Vinh, and leaders of some Vietnamese enterprises. He also visited some economic facilities and historical and cultural sites in Hanoi.
