General Secretary, President To Lam receives ASEAN Ambassadors and Chargé d'Affaires on courtesy call
WVR - On the afternoon of August 4, in Hanoi, on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of ASEAN's founding, the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), and the 31st anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN, General Secretary, President To Lam received ASEAN Ambassadors and Charge d'Affaires on courtesy call.

Welcoming the Ambassadors and Charge d'Affaires of ASEAN countries, General Secretary, President To Lam expressed thanks to ASEAN and its member countries for accompanying Vietnam in its development process. He hoped that ASEAN Ambassadors and Charge d'Affaires would continue to play their important role as bridges to enhance cooperation, coordinate implementation, and contribute to further developing cooperation between Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries.
General Secretary, President To Lam highly appreciated the achievements ASEAN has made with numerous programs and initiatives across all fields of politics, security-defense, economy-society, and culture; he expressed confidence that ASEAN countries will maintain solidarity, promote cooperation, strengthen the central role, and successfully build the ASEAN Community 2045.
Sharing about Vietnam's foreign policy, General Secretary, President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam remains steadfast in its path of independence, self-reliance, resilience, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralizing and diversifying foreign relations.
Vietnam values its relationship with ASEAN and ASEAN countries, considering ASEAN as a close-knit family and very close neighbours.
Appreciating the positive developments in the relationship between Vietnam and ASEAN and its member countries in recent times, the General Secretary, President emphasised that Vietnam wishes to continue promoting relationships in a deep, substantive, stable, trustworthy, and long-lasting manner, together building a united and strong ASEAN Community.

Representing ASEAN Ambassadors and Charge d'Affaires in Hanoi, Philippine Ambassador Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III conveyed greetings and regards from the high-level leaders of ASEAN countries to General Secretary, President To Lam; congratulated the significant socio-economic development achievements that Vietnam has attained in recent times, and expressed confidence that Vietnam will successfully achieve its strategic development goals, becoming a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030, and a developed, high-income country by 2045.
The Philippine Ambassador emphasized that ASEAN countries highly value Vietnam's role and contributions over more than three decades as an official member of ASEAN.
The Philippine Ambassador welcomed Vietnam's organization of the ASEAN Future Forum 2026, which has garnered interest and participation from countries in the region, helping to strengthen ASEAN's internal connectivity across channels, contributing positively to the common efforts of the Philippines' ASEAN Chairmanship year to build the ASEAN Community and strengthen ASEAN's relations with important international partners outside the region.
The Philippine Ambassador affirmed the shared commitment of ASEAN countries to accelerate the process of building the ASEAN Community, implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, the important outcomes of the 48th ASEAN Summit, promoting ASEAN's external network, and maintaining ASEAN solidarity in responding to common challenges.

Sharing about cooperation directions within ASEAN, General Secretary, President To Lam emphasised that in the context of a rapidly and complexly changing world, ASEAN and ASEAN countries need to enhance exchanges, cooperation, strengthen political trust, solidarity, increase resilience, strategic autonomy, resolve disagreements within ASEAN; promote economic-social development cooperation, trade, and investment among ASEAN countries and between ASEAN and partners, focusing on potential fields that are complementary, narrowing the development gap among member countries.
Agreeing with the orientations outlined by General Secretary, President To Lam, the Philippine Ambassador affirmed that ASEAN countries are committed to continuing to closely coordinate with Vietnam's relevant agencies to promote bilateral relations as well as contribute to building a resilient, dynamic, creative, and people-centered ASEAN Community, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in Southeast Asia and the world.
