According to the Deputy FM, on the national flag of the Dominican Republic, the shade of blue reflects the longing for the nation’s eternal freedom, the shade of white symbolizes the people's peace and unity, and the shade of red represents the blood of patriotic Dominicans who laid down their lives for the independence of their country. "Such are the sacred values that our two peoples share. Both countries cherish their national independence, and respect those who sacrificed for the cause", he said.

“Viet Nam takes pride in its friendship with the Dominican Republic, as the two countries uphold common ideals in their struggles to achieve their people’s aspiration for independence and freedom, and shared wishes for peace, stability, cooperation, and development.”

He also affirms that Viet Nam pursues the foreign policy of multilateralization and diversification of external relations. Viet Nam wishes to be a friend with all countries, and always strives to bolster its traditional friendship and solidarity with important friends and partners in Latin America, including the Dominican Republic.

Viet Nam has finalized relevant procedures to establish diplomatic relations with Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago. Thus, Viet Nam now enjoys diplomatic ties with all 33 Latin American countries, he noted.

According to Deputy FM Ha Kim Ngoc, the traditional friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and the Dominican Republic have been thriving. The two countries have maintained delegation exchanges and effective cooperation between the two Governments, and particularly via the Party channel, in which the United Left Movement of the Dominican Republic (MIU) plays a key role.

While trade turnover between the two countries remains modest at an average of 100 million USD per annum, the two sides are determined to enhance trade ties, along with people-to-people exchange, and cooperation in agriculture, science, technology, culture, education, tourism, construction, and climate action.

The two countries also continue to coordinate and support each other at international organizations and multilateral forums, such as the United Nations and the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).

He stated that the ongoing visit to Vietnam by General Secretary Miguel Mejia, a close friend of Vietnam, is very important. The two sides have agreed on measures to further strengthen the bilateral ties in the coming time, including creating favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries to explore each other's market. In addition, Vietnamese corporations, such as Viettel, Viglacera, PVN, and Vinfast, are encouraged to make further investment in the Dominican market, he added.

The Deputy FM also express his hope that Viet Nam will continue to receive more Dominican delegations, so as to broaden and deepen the solidarity and cooperation between the two countries. In particular, Vietnam looks forward to welcoming the Dominican President's visit to Viet Nam this year. “I am confident that this visit will serve as an important driver for our bilateral ties in a new phase of development”, he said.
