About 6,800 tonnes of fresh lychee, worth 3.85 million USD, was exported to China through the Kim Thanh II international border gate in the northern province of Lao Cai from the beginning of the lychee crop to May 31.

Trucks carrying fresh lychee began to arrive at the border gate on May 12. The number of trucks has continued to rise, with up to 40 trucks per day from May 18 until now.

Trucks carrying fresh lychee are given priority to transport the fruit to China. All trucks were cleared just about two hours after customs workers began on June 2.

According to the Management Board of Lao Cai Economic Zone, the lychee output of Hai Duong and Bac Giang to be exported to China through the Kim Thanh border gate, is expected to reach nearly 30,000 tonnes. The harvest period will take place over two months with the largest volume of Bac Giang lychee anticipated to be picked from June 10.

Head of the Management Board of Lao Cai Economic Zone Vuong Quoc Trinh said, that the Management Board has arranged the shortest and most convenient lanes for trucks carrying fresh lychee to enter the border gate. A parking lot is also set aside for lychee transport, which can accommodate up to 100 trucks.

In particular, the Management Board of Lao Cai Economic Zone discussed with the Management Board of the Border Gate of Ha Khau district, Yunnan province, China, the time and volume of lychee exported through the Kim Thanh border gate, so that the two sides will coordinate to accelerate the customs clearance process.

“With the view of giving the top priority to lychee export through Kim Thanh border gate, we make our best efforts so that all trucks carrying lychee are cleared before 10 am every day”, Quoc confirmed.
