The two-day event, co-hosted by the Naval Region 4 Command, the Navy Museum, National Archives Centre No.4 and the Hanoi Photography Club, is meant to mark the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Truong Sa (April 29), the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30), and the 70th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People's Navy (May 7).

In his opening speech, Deputy Political Commissar of Naval Region 4 Col. Nguyen Huu Minh stressed that the event aims to further instill a deep sense of pride and confidence in the nation's glorious traditions, the army, the navy, and Naval Region 4 among officers, soldiers and citizens. It also serves as a platform to honour the generations of those who have dedicated and sacrificed their lives to protect Vietnam's maritime sovereignty.

On display are a rich collection of documents, photos and artifacts that vividly trace Vietnam’s historical claims to Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, the ongoing struggle to defend and uphold maritime sovereignty, and the resolve of the Vietnamese army and people to safeguard the nation's territory and waters.
