The ceremony was co-chaired by Vice President of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam Nguyen Manh Dong and Acting Director General of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs Pham Dut Diem, along with officials from both institutions.
This event was held in response to the campaign to collect materials for the Diplomatic Tradition House, launched by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on July 4, 2025.
At the ceremony, the Department of Foreign Affairs handed over nearly 100 documents and artifacts reflecting various diplomatic activities prior to 1975. These materials were contributed by leaders, staff, and relatives of the Department’s officials from different periods, in response to the Minister’s call. Among them are photographs, archival files, and several previously unpublished documents relating to Vietnam’s diplomatic activities.

Speaking at the event, Vice President of the Diplomatic Academy Nguyen Manh Dong highlighted the significance of contributing documents and artifacts that reflect the 80-year history of the Diplomatic Sector, showcasing the proud tradition of generations of diplomats in building, defending, and developing the country.
He expressed gratitude for the active and responsible contributions of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs’ officials over the years to preserving the history and traditions of the sector. He affirmed that these valuable materials will be carefully preserved and effectively utilized by the Academy, first and foremost to serve the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ exhibition space at the Socio-Economic Achievements Exhibition marking the 80th National Day anniversary, to be held from August 28 to September 5, 2025.
Acting Director General Pham Dut Diem stated that in recent years, the Department of Foreign Affairs has placed great emphasis on collecting artifacts and documents, considering it a regular activity aimed at educating political awareness and pride in the glorious traditions of the Siplomatic Sector, particularly among younger officials.
He also stressed that the materials presented to the Ministry today embody the honour and pride of generations of the Department’s officials toward the sector’s traditions. While acknowledging that these artifacts and documents represent only a “small slice” of the glorious history of Vietnamese diplomacy, he noted that they will help diversify the Ministry’s archives.
