The choice of the "Japanese giant"
In addition to the advantage of complete transport infrastructure (near national highways, railways, seaports, and airports), Thang Long Industrial Park Thanh Hoa also has the potential for abundant labor resources, reasonable costs, and open investment attraction policies.
Thang Long Industrial Park Thanh Hoa aims to expand and develop sustainably, with the goal of attracting businesses with advanced technology and environmental friendliness. The industrial park is committed to caring, supporting and accompanying investors throughout the pre-investment process as well as the operation of the business.
It is expected that, upon completion, the industrial park will attract numerous manufacturing enterprises to invest, create leverage for local economic development, facilitate labor restructuring, and enhance the value of industrial production.
Thang Long Industrial Park Thanh Hoa is divided into 4 phases. In May 2025, Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee approved the investment policy of Thang Long Industrial Park Thanh Hoa phase 1, with an area of 167 hectares, a total capital of nearly 3,000 billion VND, of which investor capital accounts for 15% (nearly 438 billion VND).
The project has been operating for 50 years, the implementation schedule is until December 2027. Upon completion, the project is expected to attract 50-250 secondary investors to lease land and build factories, creating jobs for approximately 13,000-40,000 workers.

The project investor is Sumitomo Corporation, a multi-industry corporation from Japan, established in 1919. Sumitomo has invested in Vietnam since 1997. Currently, the "Japanese giant" has operated three industrial parks Thang Long I, II, III in Hanoi, Hung Yen and Phu Tho. In industrial parks throughout each locality, Sumitomo Corporation not only plays a role in infrastructure development but also serves as a focal point to attract a series of satellite enterprises, including Canon, Panasonic, Yamaha, Denso, Hoya, Kyocera, Nidec, Meiko, and Daikin.
Thang Long Industrial Park (TLIP1) in Hanoi attracts more than 90 big investors from Japan. Thang Long Industrial Park II (TLIP2) in Hung Yen continues to expand its supply chain with manufacturers of electronics, refrigeration, and precision mechanics. Thang Long Industrial Park (Vinh Phuc) (TLIP3) in Phu Tho (former Vinh Phuc) shapes a high-tech ecosystem serving the automotive, medical equipment, and semiconductor industries.
On the basis of that solid foundation, Sumitomo Corporation established a new development axis in Thanh Hoa as part of its expansion strategy in Vietnam. Thang Long Industrial Park Thanh Hoa is expected to become a new growth pole for the Japanese chain from the North to the Central.

| Leaders of Thanh Hoa province handed over the Decision to approve the investment policy and investor of the Thang Long Industrial Park Thanh Hoa project (phase 1) to the representative of Sumitomo Corporation, in May 2025. |
Comprehensive, modern, and sustainable orientation
The presence of Japanese investors in Thanh Hoa is considered a push, contributing to the transformation of the industrial development model towards modernity and sustainability in the locality. Sumitomo Corporation's decision to invest in Thanh Hoa also holds special significance in the context that the locality is reshaping its mindset for attracting FDI. Instead of focusing on the number of projects, the province aims to create a high-quality industrial ecosystem that enables satellite businesses from Japan to connect, expand, and grow in the long term.
With the participation of Sumitomo Corporation in industrial park development, a professional, efficient, and methodical promotional network has been established. This is also a bridge for partners in Sumitomo Corporation's ecosystem to come to Thang Long Industrial Park Thanh Hoa, and at the same time create a new standard in operation management, services and technical infrastructure.
The biggest expectation when welcoming Sumitomo to Thanh Hoa lies not only in the value of direct investment but also in the opportunity to comprehensively upgrade the local industrial value chain. When businesses in the Japanese ecosystem are present, a deeply linked production network will be established. Domestic enterprises have the opportunity to become second- and third-tier suppliers, thereby creating a wave of technology transfer, improving governance, and improving productivity.
The model of "Sumitomo goes first, Japanese brand follows" has proven effective in the Northern provinces. Once Thang Long Thanh Hoa is completed, the same scenario will repeat: Japanese investors will come one after another, forming a production chain from electronic components, precision mechanics, etc. to medical equipment, household electrical appliances. It is not only the flow of capital, but the flow of gray matter, production processes, and international standards.
Not stopping at attracting FDI investors, Thang Long Industrial Park Thanh Hoa also contributes to building a local industrial ecosystem, in which domestic enterprises play a role in deeply participating in the value chain. Universities, vocational schools, and research institutes are also encouraged to partner with industrial parks, provide high-quality human resources, and promote research, development, and innovation activities.
The presence of Japanese investors also helps Thanh Hoa improve its position on the national industrial map. Not only does it stop at the role of "satellite" for centers such as Hanoi and Hai Phong, but the province is gradually becoming an independent growth pole with the ability to lead the region. Hopefully, when the production, service, and logistics chains are smoothly connected in the locality, Thang Long Industrial Park, Thanh Hoa, will become a driving force and a new development pillar of Thanh Hoa, attracting more large investors in the future.
