WVR - From June 22-23, as part of her working visit to Australia, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang held meetings with Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Matt Thistlethwaite, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade George Mina, APEC Senior Official Jeremy Green, First Assistant Secretary Paul Griffiths, and Executive Chairman of the APEC Study Centre Craig Emerson.

During the discussions, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang highly appreciated the robust and substantive development of the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, affirming that Australia is an important partner and a trusted friend of Vietnam in the region. She expressed thanks to Foreign Minister Penny Wong for sending a message and to Deputy Secretary Michelle Chan for directly participating and contributing positively to the success of the ASEAN Future Forum hosted by Vietnam on June 9-10.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang proposed that both sides continue to deepen and enhance the effectiveness of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, further strengthening political trust through promoting high-level delegation exchanges and enhancing substantive cooperation in fields such as economy, trade, investment, development cooperation, education and training, science and technology, innovation, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. She emphasized that science and technology should be identified as a priority focus in the near future.

Highlighting that the two countries share many similar views and interests on international and regional issues, the Deputy Minister suggested that both sides strengthen the sharing of positions and closely coordinate at regional and global multilateral mechanisms, especially ASEAN, the United Nations, Mekong sub-regional cooperation, APEC, CPTPP, OECD, etc. The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam values Australia's role and position, supporting Australia in enhancing effective connectivity and cooperation with ASEAN countries and the Mekong sub-region.

Providing information on the preparations for hosting APEC Year 2027, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang emphasized that hosting APEC Year 2027 is a great honour and responsibility for Vietnam, alongside APEC members, to contribute to promoting regional cooperation and economic integration, enhancing the resilience of the region and each member economy amidst the complex global security and development environment.

The Deputy Minister stressed that Vietnam places great importance on hosting APEC Year 2027, identifying it as a top multilateral foreign affairs activity for Vietnam from now until 2030.

In the spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and with Australia's role as one of the founding member economies of the forum, the Deputy Minister proposed that Australia continue to support and closely coordinate with Vietnam and other members to promote increasingly effective and substantive APEC cooperation, especially ensuring the success of APEC Year 2027 and the APEC Summit in Phu Quoc, thereby enhancing APEC's role and contribution to the prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.

Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Matt Thistlethwaite, Deputy Secretary George Mina, and other Australian partners all expressed high appreciation for the increasingly positive and substantive development of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries across all fields. They affirmed that Vietnam is a close and reliable partner with an increasingly prominent role and position on the international stage, expressing a desire to strengthen close cooperation with Vietnam in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks.

Australia congratulated and expressed confidence that, with its position, reputation, and highly effective implementation of foreign policy in recent times, Vietnam will successfully assume the role of chairing APEC Year 2027, a time of great significance not only for the APEC forum but also for strengthening regional and global economic cooperation and integration.

Agreeing with Vietnam's proposals and suggestions, Australia affirmed that it will closely coordinate with Vietnam in the preparation and hosting of APEC Year 2027 activities, especially in promoting new priorities and initiatives that meet the development needs of members in the new context.
