The session brought together Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin, China’s Chair of the 2026 APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) Chen Xu, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat Eduardo Pedrosa, and representatives of major Russian enterprises and investment funds.
The session focused on discussing the role, potential, and direction of APEC cooperation amidst profound changes in the regional and global economy due to digital transformation, demographic shifts, supply chain restructuring, and economic fragmentation trends.
Speakers highly valued the role of the APEC Forum in promoting an open multilateral trading system, supporting the establishment of regional economic cooperation standards, and turning Asia-Pacific, which currently accounts for over 60% of global GDP and about 40% of the global population, into the world's leading dynamic region. They also discussed major directions to enhance APEC's cooperation effectiveness in the coming period.

Speaking at the session, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized the role of the Asia-Pacific region as a growth driver of the global economy over the past three decades.
According to the Deputy Minister, the region's success is built on the foundation of economic integration, open markets, trade and investment liberalization, innovation, and a commitment to cooperation.
Appreciating APEC's contributions to the growth, connectivity, and sustainable development of the region, the Deputy Minister stated that APEC should continue to play its role as a leading economic cooperation forum, focusing on three major priorities by 2035: (i) promoting free and open trade and investment; (ii) enhancing the resilience of economies and supply chains; (iii) leveraging opportunities from science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, and green transition to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth.
In this process, APEC needs to strengthen coordination with regional and global mechanisms, including ASEAN, G20, OECD, EAEU, and others to enhance efficiency and optimize resources in addressing common challenges.
Affirming that Vietnam always values APEC and the Asia-Pacific region, the Deputy Minister shared that during Vietnam's two hostings of APEC in 2006 and 2017, the country introduced many initiatives on APEC reform, inclusive economic and social development, and human resource development in the digital era...

Vietnam is currently prioritizing resources and actively preparing for its role as the host of APEC 2027 and wishes to closely coordinate with China, the host of APEC 2026, subsequent hosts, and other APEC members to promote cooperation for peace, prosperity, and development of the region and the world, contributing to realizing the APEC Vision for the benefit of the people and businesses in the region.
Delegates highly appreciated Vietnam's role, vision, and proactive preparation for APEC Year 2027, expressing confidence that Vietnam will continue to make significant contributions to promoting dialogue, economic integration, and cooperation for an open, resilient, and prosperous Asia-Pacific; while also valuing Vietnam's dynamic development, seeing it as a potential partner, especially in investment, trade, and financial services.
