Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan pays a working vist to Egypt

From September 16-18, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan made a Egypt. The Deputy Minister held meetings with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh, co-chaired the 11th Vietnam-Egypt Political Consultation Session with Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad Amr Hamza, and worked with the Arab League (AL) and the Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt.
During the meeting with Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed his appreciation for Vietnam's current international standing and was pleased with the high political trust between the two countries. The Minister thanked Vietnam for sending a delegation for political consultation to implement the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Egypt and announced plans to visit Vietnam in 2026 to prepare for high-level leadership activities in 2027.
The Minister welcomed Vietnam's opening of a Defense Attaché Office in Cairo, noting that the two countries regularly participate in each other's defense exhibitions and are enhancing cooperation in this field. The Minister tasked the 11th Political Consultation Session with discussing specific measures to boost trade and investment between the two countries, particularly in software development, digital transformation, cybersecurity, semiconductors, oil and gas, tourism, and proposed that both sides study the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on oil and gas cooperation.
At the 11th Vietnam-Egypt Political Consultation Session, both sides reviewed the implementation of signed agreements, discussed directions to promote bilateral cooperation in the future, and exchanged views on prominent regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Both sides noted that bilateral trade turnover in 2025 had positively increased by 30% compared to the previous year and appreciated the agreement on the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the Vietnam-Egypt Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Feasibility Study Group.
Both parties also agreed on the need to soon complete the legal framework to enhance economic and trade relations by signing an agreement to avoid double taxation, a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of electricity and renewable energy, and a Letter of Intent on agricultural trade development. They emphasized maintaining bilateral cooperation mechanisms and organizing the 6th Joint Committee meeting in Egypt soon.

Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan highly valued Egypt's role in mediating and promoting peace in regional issues, reiterated the invitation for the Egyptian President to visit Vietnam in 2027, and suggested that both sides continue to promote research and negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), expanding cooperation in other fields such as Halal, education, tourism, and localities.
The Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt appreciated the sending of the 11th Political Consultation delegation amid complex developments in the global and Middle East-North Africa region, and praised Vietnam's foreign policy, which respects international law and the United Nations Charter, prioritizing peaceful solutions to issues.
In terms of economics, Egypt hopes Vietnam can share its experience in attracting investment for export production to reduce Egypt's current trade deficit not only with Vietnam but with many countries. They are eager for Vietnamese businesses to invest in the Special Economic Zone along the Suez Canal, taking advantage of policy incentives and existing infrastructure.
Additionally, the Assistant Minister affirmed that Egypt is ready to cooperate in strengthening collaboration in defense, tourism, Halal, and other areas.

During the meeting with Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan proposed that Egypt expedite the joint research on the Vietnam-Egypt FTA, facilitate the access of Vietnam's strong agricultural products (such as rice, lychee, dragon fruit), seafood, electronics, and components to Egypt's 110 million population market, and enhance market information sharing and encourage businesses from both countries to strengthen cooperation in Halal, digital transformation, information technology, oil and gas, and minerals, aiming to increase bilateral trade turnover to 1 billion USD.
The Minister suggested promoting Egyptian goods exhibitions in Vietnam, establishing a bilateral business council, implementing mutual recognition for pharmaceutical products, and boosting cooperation in financial service products to enhance two-way investment. The Minister is confident that Egypt's central location and its free trade agreements with Europe and Africa will be a good choice for Vietnamese businesses to invest in export production in the Free Economic Zone.

During the visit, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan worked with the Arab League (AL). The Deputy Minister expressed Vietnam's desire to deepen relations with the Arab League and its 22 member countries through the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Arab League Secretariat with specific activities, prioritizing economic cooperation.
Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League Khaled Manzlawiy recalled the profound impression of the Vietnamese President's policy speech at the League's headquarters in 2025, appreciated the good relations Vietnam has with the 22 member countries, suggested co-organizing the Arab-Vietnam Business Conference, hoped Vietnam would send an observer to the Arab League, and supported closer ties between the League and ASEAN, ready to accept diplomatic interns at the League and send researchers to Vietnam.
Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan also held a meeting with the Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt, acknowledging and commending the embassy staff's dedication in overcoming difficulties and striving to fulfill their diplomatic duties, contributing to the country's development goals in the new phase.
