WVR - On the morning of December 19, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan received a delegation from the Economic Department of Laos' Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Director Somboun Sihanath, during their visit to Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan warmly welcomed the delegation led by Director Somboun Sihanath, emphasizing the significance of this visit in concretizing high-level agreements, especially following the successful state visit to Laos by General Secretary To Lam on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Laos' National Day. He expressed delight at the historical achievements Laos has made over 50 years of building and 40 years of renovation, highlighting that the bilateral relations have been elevated to a new level, based on the 16 golden words “Great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, strategic connectivity”.

Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan praised the exchange mechanism between the two Economic Departments in recent times; he urged both units to continue close coordination to effectively implement the Agreement between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs for the 2026-2030 period. Notably, both sides should proactively prepare for major political events in 2026 and the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity Year 2027, as well as coordinate during Vietnam's APEC Chairmanship in 2027.

Sharing Vietnam's economic diplomacy orientation in the new development phase, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan emphasized the need to leverage economic diplomacy and science and technology diplomacy to drive breakthrough growth. He urged the two departments to enhance timely and close exchanges for more effective and practical advice. He welcomed the delegation's upcoming visit to Hai Phong City, a dynamic developing city in Vietnam with strengths in industrial development, seaports, and high technology.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception from Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director Somboun Sihanath affirmed that no other bilateral relationship in the world is as close and special as that between Vietnam and Laos, considering Vietnam as a second home. He was impressed by Vietnam's practical experiences in linking diplomacy with economic development. He confirmed that Laos' Economic Department will strive to collaborate with Vietnamese partners to make economic diplomacy a stronger pillar in the special relationship between the two countries.

He thanked Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for supporting the organization of a seminar on economic diplomacy implementation experiences and new orientations. The seminar provided many practical and valuable insights. The delegation learned a lot, especially from the meaningful insights shared by Fulbright experts on the digital economy. He hoped for continued practical support in the future.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan provided specific guidance on the direction and focus of economic diplomacy efforts for the 2026-2030 period with the Economic Diplomacy Department of Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Laos' Economic Department.
