Cultural exchange and art erformance strengthen ties within the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka

On August 19 in Colombo, the troupe participated and performed at the ceremony celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – August 19, 2025), the 80th anniversary of Independence Day (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025), and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Sri Lanka (July 21, 1970 – July 21, 2025), hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Sri Lanka.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, External Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herah, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rizvie Salih, ministers and deputy ministers, former Sri Lankan leaders, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam, members of the diplomatic corps, international friends, and the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka.
The performances featured the distinct characteristics of both cultures, introducing to friends and guests Vietnamese modern music, Bac Ninh Quan ho folk songs, and traditional Vietnamese musical instruments blended with Sri Lankan folk melodies. These performances contributed to enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

The Vietnamese artists also collaborated with Sri Lankan performers in two joint performances: Vietnam’s “Trong com” and Sri Lanka’s folk song “Ran Bindu Bindi”, symbolizing cultural harmony and the friendship between the two nations.
The program not only promoted the image of Vietnam and its people but also evoked pride and a sense of connection to the homeland among the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka.
On August 20 in Abakote village, Central Province of Sri Lanka, the troupe took part in a cultural exchange program with the Vietnamese community and local residents. The Governor of the Central Province, along with local leaders and officials, attended and shared in the warm and friendly atmosphere of the event.

Vietnamese artists presented many special performances and also performed together with children learning Vietnamese at Truc Lam Monastery, led by Venerable Thich Phap Quang, creating touching and memorable moments of connection.
On August 21 in Colombo, the troupe performed and participated in the opening ceremony of Vietnam Food Week at Hilton Colombo Hotel, themed “Flavors of Vietnam”, organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Sri Lanka to mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The event was attended by the Sri Lankan Minister of Trade and Food Safety, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, senior leaders of Sri Lanka, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam, members of the diplomatic corps, international friends, and the overseas Vietnamese community.

The art performances rich in national identity, combined with Vietnam’s diverse culinary space, created a cultural highlight that left a lasting impression on international friends.
In particular, at these events, the troupe invited and guided the Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Trade and Food Safety, the Governor of Central Province, and distinguished guests to experience traditional Vietnamese musical instruments such as the dan tranh (16-string zither) and dan bau (monochord). These interactions created warm, friendly images and left many positive impressions on the local audience.
