Consul General Bui Nguyen Long speaks at Chongqing-ASEAN Investment and Trade Cooperation Conference

WVR - On the afternoon of May 22, within the framework of the 8th Western China Fair in Chongqing (China), the Chongqing-ASEAN Investment and Trade Cooperation Conference took place with the participation of representatives from the China-ASEAN Trade Center, Chongqing government leaders, ASEAN countries' Consuls General, and over 200 local businesses.

Vietnamese Consul General in Chongqing Bui Nguyen Long attended and delivered a significant speech at the event.

Regarding bilateral relations, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long affirmed that Vietnam-China relations are developing robustly. By 2025, bilateral trade volume reached 256 billion USD, making Vietnam China's largest trading partner within ASEAN.

Concerning cooperation between Vietnam and Chongqing, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long emphasized that the inauguration of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing in October 2025 has invigorated high-level delegation exchanges and people-to-people interactions. Specifically, in the first quarter of 2026, import-export turnover between Vietnam and Chongqing reached 11 billion Yuan, marking a 15% increase compared to the same period last year.

Highlighting Vietnam's advantages, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long noted that Vietnam boasts a golden population of over 100 million, stable socio-political conditions, a GDP growth of 8.02% in 2025, and total import-export turnover exceeding 930 billion USD. Vietnam has participated in 17 new-generation free trade agreements (FTAs) and was rated by Moody's as the only country in the Asia-Pacific with a “positive outlook” in May 2026.

Vietnamese Consul General in Chongqing Bui Nguyen Long introduces the achievements of cooperation in various fields between Vietnam and Chongqing.

On this basis, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long proposed five key cooperation directions between Vietnam and Chongqing, including: enhancing manufacturing linkages (new energy, electronics, smart devices, auto-motorcycle parts); leveraging the New Western Land-Sea Corridor to optimize logistics and reduce costs; expanding agricultural and food trade; promoting cooperation in green energy, digital economy, and high technology; and strengthening direct connections between businesses, associations, and investment promotion organizations.

Concluding his speech, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long committed that the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing will always accompany and support businesses from both sides, promoting projects that are substantive and effective, contributing to the sustainable development of economic and trade relations between Vietnam and Chongqing.
