Vietnamese Consul General in Guangzhou attends Guangdong-ASEAN Economic-Trade Exchange Seminar

The event was organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province under the theme “Promoting Trade Cooperation, Supporting Guangdong Enterprises to Collaborate with ASEAN”.
Attending the seminar were Wang Xi, Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, along with Consuls General and Consuls from ASEAN countries in Guangzhou. Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung, Chairman of the ASEAN Consular Corps in Guangzhou, attended and spoke at the seminar.
In his speech, Wang Xi emphasized that Guangdong is the economic "locomotive" of China and the largest economic region in the country, playing a crucial role in trade cooperation between China and ASEAN. He stated that the cooperative relationship between Guangdong and ASEAN countries has a solid foundation, great potential, and broad prospects.
Additionally, Wang Xi proposed that the parties enhance strategic connectivity between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and ASEAN countries; promote innovation and improve the quality of cooperation; boost supply chain-production linkages; leverage the role of the Canton Fair; and establish regular exchange mechanisms to form iconic cooperative projects.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Guangzhou, Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung highly appreciated Guangdong's initiative to organize the seminar. He emphasized that 2026 holds special significance as it marks the 5th anniversary of establishing the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The Consul General affirmed that ASEAN continues to be China's largest regional trading partner, with Vietnam being one of China's top partners in ASEAN and a major trading partner of Guangdong Province.
Referring to the upgraded protocol of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area Agreement (ACFTA 3.0), the Consul General noted that this agreement expands commitments to new areas such as the digital economy, green economy, and emerging industries. Thus, ACFTA 3.0 facilitates businesses and contributes to strengthening the regional supply chain towards stability and flexibility.
Recalling the results of the State visit to China by General Secretary and President To Lam, the Consul General stated that both sides agreed to continue promoting the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership in the new era in a healthy, stable manner, aiming to build a Vietnam-China Community with a shared future of strategic significance at a higher level.
Both sides also identified promoting cooperation in areas such as smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, high-speed rail, and clean energy.

The Consul General emphasized that Vietnam is implementing a development strategy based on science-technology, innovation, digital transformation, and green transition; at the same time, Vietnam places special importance on cooperation with dynamic regions of China such as Guangdong.
Additionally, the Consul General also suggested that Guangdong continue to support and facilitate trade promotion activities; promote deeper access for Vietnamese agricultural products, food, and consumer goods into the Guangdong market; and support Vietnamese businesses in deeper integration into the global value chain.
Concluding his remarks, the Consul General affirmed that the Vietnamese Consulate General in Guangzhou is committed to continuing to play a bridging role, actively supporting information connectivity, promoting cooperation, and accompanying agencies, localities, and businesses on both sides.
The seminar concluded successfully, opening up many practical cooperation opportunities between Vietnam, Guangdong Province, and ASEAN countries in the new development phase, especially as China is expected to host APEC 2026 with many important events to be held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
