During the meetings, both sides affirmed the importance of the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Sakai City. They also expressed their delight at the positive developments in the relationship between Sakai and Vietnamese localities in recent times, especially with Da Nang City since the establishment of their friendship in 2019.

Both parties agreed to continue promoting exchanges and enhancing substantive cooperation between Sakai and Da Nang, while also expanding connections with other Vietnamese localities in the future.

Consul General Nguyen Truong Son affirmed his commitment to promoting cooperative relations between Vietnam and Sakai City during his term. He also thanked the Sakai City government and council for their ongoing support and assistance to the foreign community, including the Vietnamese community, in stabilizing their lives and integrating into society.

The Vietnamese Consul General in Osaka also proposed to further enhance people-to-people exchanges, cultural and sports exchanges, and community connections in the future, supporting the organization of activities and events for the Vietnamese community in the city.

Sakai City leaders highly appreciated the community of over 5,500 Vietnamese living, studying, and working in the locality, affirming that the Vietnamese community is a young, dynamic force with many positive contributions to the city's socio-economic development.

The two sides also discussed the plan for the Sakai Mayor to visit Da Nang City in July 2026. This will be the Mayor's first visit to Vietnam in his current position, expected to boost cooperation between the two localities.

Based on the existing friendly relations, both sides agreed to coordinate in promoting practical cooperation projects, including sustainable development initiatives such as the carbon-neutral port project, while enhancing economic cooperation, investment, and business exchanges.

With its strength as a centre for many small and medium enterprises, especially renowned for traditional industries such as knife crafting, Sakai expressed its desire to strengthen investment and business activities in Vietnam, as well as expand the presence of its local specialty products in the Vietnamese market.

Sakai City has a long-standing historical relationship with Vietnam. About 400 years ago, many Sakai merchants came to trade and live in Hoi An, contributing to laying an important foundation for the Vietnam-Japan friendship in general and the relationship between Sakai and Vietnamese localities in particular.

Currently, based on the friendship with Da Nang City established in 2019, Sakai is continuing to promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
