The Congress of the Vietnamese Association in Thailand for the 2026-2028 term was held in a solemn, united, and responsible atmosphere, aiming to summarize the activities of the past term, set directions for the new term, and elect a new president.
The congress reviewed the summary report of activities for the 2023-2025 term and outlined the directions and tasks for the 2026-2028 term. The period from 2021-2025 was marked by numerous challenges, notably the Covid-19 pandemic. The work direction for the 2026-2028 term, with the slogan “Unity-Innovation-Strength-Rooted in Heritage”, aims to build the General Association into a modern organization, serving as a strong bridge between the Vietnamese community in Thailand and both the local government and Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thin, President of the General Association, shared that being entrusted by the community during a period of many changes but also significant milestones is not only a great honor but also a sacred responsibility.
He shared unforgettable, profound memories of community activities and expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese Embassy and Consulate General for their constant support and assistance to the General Association over the past period.

On behalf of the Election Committee, Mr. Tran Xuan Muoi, Head of the Committee, announced that there are two candidates: Mr. Ho Van Lam, Vice President of the General Association and President of the Thai-Vietnamese Business Association, and Mr. Luong Xuan Hoa, Member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Vice President of the General Association, and President of the Vietnamese Association in Udon Thani province.
The voting was conducted by secret ballot, with Mr. Ho Van Lam receiving 14 out of 27 votes and Mr. Luong Xuan Hoa receiving 13 out of 27 votes.

Speaking after being elected as President of the General Association, Mr. Ho Van Lam expressed gratitude to the delegates for their trust and confidence, stating that this is not only a great honor but also a significant responsibility to the community.
Mr. Ho Van Lam affirmed that the achievements, sacrifices, and dedication of previous expatriates form a solid foundation for the new Executive Committee to continue to inherit and develop the General Association further. He hopes to continue receiving close guidance from Vietnamese representative agencies, support from the Thai government, and especially the companionship and contributions of the entire Vietnamese expatriate community.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung expressed joy and emotion at attending the Congress and being part of the enthusiastic and united atmosphere. He congratulated the new President, Ho Van Lam, and affirmed that Mr. Luong Xuan Hoa has made significant contributions to the community over the years.
The Ambassador also thanked and acknowledged the contributions of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thin and the Executive Committee of the General Association to the Vietnamese community in Thailand.

Noting that 2026 will feature many important events, such as the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Thailand diplomatic relations, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung hopes the new Executive Committee will fulfill its commitments with the shared goal of building a united, stable, and developing community, preserving national cultural identity, contributing to and building Thailand, and fostering the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand.
Attending the Congress, Consul General of Vietnam in Khon Kaen Dinh Hoang Linh emphasized that the Congress is a particularly important political event for the Vietnamese community in Thailand. He expressed joy and excitement over the development journey of the General Association since its establishment in 2013.
The Consul General highlighted that from January 19-25, a particularly important political event, the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, will take place in Vietnam.
Accordingly, the 14th Congress will not only summarize and evaluate the results of the past five years but also determine the country's development strategies for the next five years and outline major plans and goals for the country by the mid-21st century. In Vietnam, the entire Party, people, and military are striving to achieve accomplishments in celebration.

Consul General Dinh Hoang Linh emphasized that the significant contributions of the community and the success of the Congress also make a meaningful and practical contribution to welcoming the 14th Party Congress. He highly appreciates and trusts that under the leadership of new President Ho Van Lam, the General Association will continue to unite, achieve its goals, and accompany the community in becoming more united and cohesive, achieving many positive and meaningful results, and connecting Vietnam and Thailand.
The Consul General shared that this period is incredibly meaningful for the nation and the people. In 2025, Vietnam's economy made a remarkable breakthrough with a growth rate among the world's leaders, estimated at over 8%, with total import-export turnover exceeding 930 billion USD, and the economy's scale reaching about 514 billion USD, ranking 32nd globally. The average per capita income is approximately 5,020 USD, an increase of over 300 USD compared to 2024.

In an interview with Nhan Dan Newspaper correspondents in Thailand, the new President of the Vietnamese Association in Thailand, Ho Van Lam, affirmed that together with the Executive Committee for the 2026-2028 term, they will connect Vietnamese expatriates in Thailand, creating a great unity bloc oriented towards Vietnam. They will promote community activities, enhance the teaching and learning of the Vietnamese language, and strengthen the traditional friendship between the people of Vietnam and Thailand.
In a spirit of unity, after a prompt, serious, democratic, and responsible working session, the Congress of the Vietnamese Association in Thailand for the 2026-2028 term successfully completed all content, programs, and objectives set out.
The voting results also reflect the delegates' desire to choose suitable candidates to prioritize the General Association's activities in the coming period.

The developments at the Congress show that the current activities of the General Association are increasingly civilized and modern, with open, fair, and objective election processes, creating an important foundation for delegates to express their will, ensuring self-determination, responsibility, and contributing to strengthening the spirit of democracy, enhancing unity and responsibility of each individual towards the expatriate community.
The Congress clearly demonstrated the spirit of unity in will, consensus in action, and determination to build a more united and strong Vietnamese community in Thailand, well-integrated with the local society while remaining oriented towards the homeland.
The success of the Congress of the Vietnamese Association in Thailand for the 2026-2028 term lays the foundation for the development and activities of Vietnamese expatriates in Thailand in the coming period, aiming to build a united and strong community, contributing to fostering and building the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand.
