Coast Guard Region 4 Command: Keeping alive Vietnam Coast Guard's tradition

Striving every day, every month and every year
25 years of establishment and development is a milestone for each officer and soldier of Coast Guard Region 4 to look back on the glorious journey of tradition, with many exemplified, proud victories and achievements.
Established on September 14th, 1998, Coast Guard Region 4 Command has upheld the mission of being a specialized force of the State, serving as the core law enforcement and protecting national security, maritime order and safety in the southwestern sea of the country, from Tra Vinh province to Ha Tien in Kien Giang province, with more than 150,000 km2 of sea area.
Throughout the 25 years of building, fighting and growing up, Coast Guard Region 4 Command has always upheld the spirit of “Resolute courage, overcoming difficulties, maintaining solidarity and synergy, strictly upholding the law”, as it has continued to excellently complete all assigned tasks.
After 25 years of building, consolidating, developing the force and performing tasks according to the its, with the spirit of “Striving every day, every month and every year”, generations of officers and soldiers of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command have always lived up to the spirit and responsibility before the Party, Fatherland and People, as they strived to overcome all difficulties and challenges, maintained their solidarity and wisdom, remained courageous and united to complete all assigned tasks.
The presence of “white ships”, a nickname of Coast Guard’s ships coined by fishermen, has become a strong fulcrum for fishermen on their seafaring journeys. .
As a companion to fishermen, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command also determines that rescuing, helping and protecting people is their mission in peacetime, a wordless command from the heart, an image and the noble quality of “Uncle Ho's soldiers” - Coast Guard soldiers.
On the ships, despite big waves and winds, harsh and dangerous weather, officers and soldiers remained unwavering in their search and rescue of ships and fishermen at sea. Thereby, the Coast Guard Region 4 soldiers and officers have successfully carried out 48 search and rescue cases, resolved consequences for fishermen in distress at sea, and safely brought back 55 vehicles and 207 fishermen.
When fishermen are in danger, the Coast Guard is also one of the first forces to arrive to help. Coast Guard soldiers are standing firmly on the waves, like a “lighthouse” of faith, together with fishermen on the sea, protecting the homeland of the Fatherland.
“Listen to the People, talk to the People, make People believe”
Besides, with the motto “Listen to the People, talk to the People, make People believe and become a trustful companion with fishermen”, recently, the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 directly visited each locality to meet and raise aweareness to fishermen. At these meetings, the unit always listened and answers the difficulties and problems of fishermen during seafaring. At the same time, it also provideed information so fishermen could better understand the policies and guidelines of the Party and State, as well as laws on seas and islands, nationally and internationally.

In the past 2 years alone, the Regional Command has coordinated with the Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department of 04 provinces: Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang to organize 17 information sessions in 27 districts, town, city for nearly 6,000 officials, fishing boat owners, fishermen, fishing port managers, facility owners, businesses and owners of ships buying seafood at sea...
On November 30, in Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang, the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 organized a conference to review the work of the Coast Guard in 2023 with many impressive and proud achievements. Specifically, in 2023, Coast Guard Region 4 synchronously and effectively deployed professional measures to prevent and combat crimes, violations; ensured good logistics, technical and financial work for regular and unexpected tasks; closely coordinated with Party Committees, local authorities and related agencies to promote communication and dissemination information on laws and social security activities in the area; acting decisively against Illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The unit also organized ships and boats to perform training and combat readiness tasks; patrol, inspect, control, and maintain law enforcement; search and rescue; prevent and combat IUU exploitation, etc. The Command of Coast Guard Region 4 has inspected and imposed administrative fines on 586 cases/655 domestic ships and 2 cases/2 foreign ships, confiscating 2,215,484 liters of DO oil; 31,214kg of scrap metal. The total amount of money got from collecting fines and selling confiscated assets due to administrative violations and contributing to the State budget was over 45 billion VND.
Thus, with persistent efforts, over the past 25 years, the development and maturity of Coast Guard Region 4 Command has become an important part of the tradition of the Vietnam Coast Guard, a strong fulcrum for fishermen during their seafaring.
