Celebration of the 81st anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in Chongqing (China)

Attending the ceremony, on the Chinese side, were Vice Mayor of Chongqing Huang Maoqun, Director of Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office Wang Wen, Heads of the Governments of the districts and counties of Yuzhong, Wenzhou and Yuxi in Chongqing, along with representatives from agencies, departments, districts, enterprises, universities, research institutes, hospitals, and journalists from Chongqing and Sichuan Province. Additionally, there was a large presence of Consuls General, acting Consuls General from various countries, and the diplomatic corps in Chongqing and Sichuan Province.

On the Vietnamese side, there was Consul General of Vietnam in Chongqing Bui Nguyen Long, along with all officials and staff of the Consulate General, representatives of organizations, businesses, the Vietnamese community, and Vietnamese students in Chongqing and Sichuan Province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long emphasized that 81 years ago, on September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Since that historic moment, the Vietnamese nation has undergone a challenging yet glorious journey to gain and protect independence and national unity, embarking on the Doi Moi (Renovation), opening up, and international integration, gradually building a peaceful, stable, and developing country with an increasingly high position on the international stage.

According to Consul General Bui Nguyen Long, today, Vietnam is entering a new phase of development with a strong determination to build a dynamic economy with deep international integration. By 2025, Vietnam's economy is projected to achieve a GDP growth rate of 8.02%, with the economy reaching a scale of 514 billion USD; realized FDI capital reaching a record level of 27.6 billion USD.

Along with economic development, Vietnam continues to focus on ensuring social welfare, improving the quality of human resources, developing science and technology, fostering innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, and environmental protection, with the overarching goal of rapid and sustainable development, placing people at the center and ensuring no one is left behind, the Consul General added.

Regarding foreign relations, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long affirmed that Vietnam is steadfast in its independent, self-reliant, peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and developmental foreign policy; proactively and actively integrating into the international community. Vietnam aspires to be a friend, a reliable partner, and an active, responsible member of the international community.

Regarding Vietnam-China relations, the Consul General noted that in recent times, the relations between the two Parties and States have continued to maintain a positive development momentum with many high-level visits and contacts. Notably, the state visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping in April 2025 and the state visit to China by General Secretary and President To Lam in April 2026 have significantly contributed to consolidating political trust and creating new momentum for cooperation between the two countries.

Notably, 2026 is a year of great significance for both Parties and countries, Vietnam and China. China is beginning the implementation of its 15th Five-Year Plan, and Vietnam has successfully organized its 14th Party Congress. Vietnam-China relations maintain a positive development momentum, with mechanisms for diplomatic, security, and defense exchanges and dialogues being strengthened and enhanced, reflecting high political trust. Economic-trade, investment, tourism, and infrastructure connectivity cooperation are growing strongly, with many breakthroughs. Local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges are vibrant; multilateral coordination is increasingly tight.

Regarding Vietnam's relations with Chongqing and Sichuan Province, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long emphasized that along with the deep and wide development of Vietnam-China relations, the cooperation between Vietnam and Chongqing and Sichuan Province has also seen remarkable developments. The fields of cooperation are increasingly diverse, from exchanges of delegations at the ministerial and local levels to economic and trade cooperation, from science and technology to services and infrastructure, from culture and education to tourism and people-to-people exchanges...

At the meeting before the ceremony and in his official speech, Mr. Huang Maoqun, Vice Mayor of Chongqing, on behalf of the Government and people of Chongqing, congratulated the significant day of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam and the tremendous achievements Vietnam has attained over the past 80 years.

The Vice Mayor of Chongqing affirmed that the friendly cooperation between Chongqing and Vietnam is increasingly profound and practical, achieving many results, with the transport route based on the new land-sea trade corridor being conveniently connected.

Mr. Huang Maoqun also highly appreciated the efforts of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Chongqing since its inauguration in October 2025 in actively building a bridge of friendship, opening cooperation channels, and promoting Chongqing and Vietnam to enhance friendship and mutual understanding.

Vice Mayor Huang Maoqun also expressed confidence that under the leadership and strategic direction of the high-level leaders of the two Parties and countries, the China-Vietnam relationship in general, and Chongqing and Vietnam in particular, will continue to be consolidated and developed. The construction of the China-Vietnam Community of Shared Future will have strategic significance at a higher level in the new era, following six major cooperation directions, bringing substantial highlights and contributing to the socialist modernization of each country and peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.
