Consul General Bui Nguyen Long addresses Tongliang International Trade Forum 2026 in Chongqing

The event was co-organized by the Chongqing Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee and the Chongqing Overseas Chinese Returning Association, bringing together nearly 400 delegates, including local government leaders, Chinese businesses, and overseas Chinese from various countries around the world.
The Vietnamese Consul General in Chongqing, Bui Nguyen Long, attended and delivered a significant speech at the Forum's opening ceremony.

Regarding Vietnam-China bilateral relations, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long affirmed that the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries is currently at its best stage, especially in the economic sector.
Accordingly, bilateral trade turnover in 2025 reached 256 billion USD, an increase of nearly 25% compared to the previous year, with China continuing to be Vietnam's largest trading partner, while Vietnam is China's largest partner in the ASEAN region.

Regarding Vietnam-Chongqing cooperation, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long emphasized that the opening of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing in October 2025 has created significant momentum, promoting high-level delegation exchanges, economic and trade cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two sides.
In the first quarter of 2026, the total import-export turnover between Vietnam and Chongqing reached 11 billion Yuan, an increase of 15% compared to the same period in 2025. Vietnam has maintained its position as Chongqing's largest trading partner in ASEAN for many consecutive years.

Regarding Vietnam's advantages and potential, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long pointed out five attractive factors of the Vietnamese market for international investors: A population of over 100 million people, with an average age of 33 – considered the "golden period" for labor resources; A stable, safe, and friendly political and social environment; A continuously reformed legal system and administrative apparatus operating more efficiently; Impressive economic growth with GDP in 2025 reaching 8.02% and total import-export turnover exceeding 930 billion USD; Participation in 17 new-generation free trade agreements (FTAs), connecting with over 60 economies.
Notably, in May 2026, Moody's rated Vietnam as the only country in the Asia-Pacific region with a "positive outlook".

Regarding cooperation opportunities with Tongliang, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long stated that Tongliang District has outstanding strengths in fields such as auto parts, new energy vehicles, energy storage devices, new materials, and high technology. These are all sectors aligned with Vietnam's current priority investment attraction and industrial development orientation, such as high technology, smart manufacturing, green energy, batteries, electric vehicles, and logistics.
The Consul General emphasized that the potential for cooperation between the two sides is enormous, especially as both seek to enhance supply chain value and sustainable development.
Concluding his speech, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long affirmed that the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing will always accompany and serve as an effective bridge, supporting businesses and governments on both sides to promote cooperation projects in depth, substantively, and sustainably, contributing to elevating Vietnam-Chongqing economic and trade relations in particular and Vietnam-China relations in general to new heights.
