Celebration of 81st anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in Bulgaria: Advancing strategic partnership in substance
WVR - On September 16, the Vietnamese Embassy in Bulgaria solemnly held the celebration of the 81st anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (2/9/1945-2/9/2026), with the participation of over 350 delegates.

The event was attended by Vice Presidents of the National Assembly, Members of Parliament; representatives from the President's Office, Prime Minister's Office; leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Economy, and representatives from various Bulgarian ministries and sectors; Ambassadors, members of the Diplomatic Corps in Sofia; organizations, partners, Bulgarian friends; a large Vietnamese community, and representatives of the younger generation of Vietnamese-Bulgarian descent.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Bulgaria Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet emphasised that the large presence of delegates is a vivid expression of the friendship and goodwill between Vietnam and Bulgaria.
Reflecting on the 81-year journey of building and developing the nation, the Ambassador noted that in 2025, Vietnam's economy grew by 8.02%, with a GDP of approximately 514 billion USD, and total import-export turnover exceeding 930 billion USD. Vietnam is aiming to become a developed, prosperous nation by the mid-21st century, with science and technology, innovation, and high-quality human resources being key drivers.

Regarding bilateral relations, the Ambassador affirmed that Bulgaria holds a special place in Vietnam's development journey. As one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1950, Bulgaria has accompanied and supported Vietnam during difficult times. Thousands of Vietnamese have studied and worked in Bulgaria, creating strong ties between the two peoples.
The Ambassador highlighted that the establishment of a Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Bulgaria during the official visit of General Secretary To Lam in October 2025 has opened a new phase of bilateral relations.
“For over seven decades, Vietnam and Bulgaria have built trust. Today, our responsibility is to turn that trust into tangible results,” the Ambassador emphasized, proposing enhanced cooperation between the National Assembly and agencies of both countries, connecting businesses, universities, research institutes, and localities, expanding exchanges among the younger generation, thereby transforming the potential of the Strategic Partnership into practical programs, projects, and benefits for the people and businesses.

On behalf of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Christo Polendakov congratulated Vietnam on the 81st anniversary of National Day, affirming that Bulgaria places special importance on its over 75-year traditional friendship with Vietnam. The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the robust development of Vietnam, a dynamic economy and a key development center in Southeast Asia; he also noted that there is ample room for cooperation in the digital and green economies between the two countries.
Notably, Deputy Minister Christo Polendakov emphasized that upgrading Vietnam-Bulgaria relations to a Strategic Partnership in 2025 has elevated the bilateral relationship to “the highest level in Bulgaria's relations with any Asian country” and is among the few Strategic Partnerships Bulgaria has established with other countries.
The Deputy Minister affirmed that Bulgaria will continue to promote EU-Vietnam, EU-ASEAN relations and coordinate with Vietnam to further develop the Strategic Partnership.

In the context of international fluctuations, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet affirmed that Vietnam remains steadfast in its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development; multilateralizing and diversifying foreign relations; respecting international law, upholding multilateralism, and resolving disagreements and disputes through peaceful means.
On this occasion, the Ambassador expressed gratitude to Bulgarian agencies, partners, and friends, colleagues in the Diplomatic Corps, and the Vietnamese community in Bulgaria for their continued friendship, cooperation, and valuable support for Vietnam.

The Ambassador affirmed that the trust and friendship nurtured by previous generations continue to be enriched with new content within the framework of the Strategic Partnership, aiming for more practical cooperation results for the peoples of both countries.

As part of the activities commemorating the 81st National Day, the Vietnamese community in Bulgaria also organized a friendly football match with the participation of many compatriots, youth, and students, contributing to strengthening community solidarity and expressing affection towards the homeland.
