81st anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day in Austria: Proud of tradition, confident in the future

WVR - On September 15, the Vietnamese Embassy in Austria solemnly organized the 81st anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2026).

The celebration was attended by leaders and representatives from Vietnamese and Austrian agencies, diplomatic corps, international organizations in Vienna, along with numerous friends and the Vietnamese community in Austria.

The event was graced by the presence of President of the National Council (Lower House) of Austria Walter Rosenkranz, President of the Federal Council (Upper House) of Austria Christine Schwarz-Fuchs, and Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh.

The event also saw the attendance of Austrian Ambassador to Vietnam Philipp Agathonos, Foreign Affairs Assistant to the Austrian Prime Minister Peter Launsky, representatives from the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and senior leaders from international organizations and the United Nations in Vienna.

In his speech, Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang recalled the historic milestone of September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, proclaimed the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, ushering in an era of independence and freedom for the Vietnamese nation. The Ambassador emphasised that the spirit of independence, self-reliance, resilience, and the aspiration for development has accompanied the country throughout 81 years of building and safeguarding the nation, especially during 40 years of Doi Moi (Renewal).

The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam today is a peaceful, independent nation, proactive and actively integrating internationally; it has established diplomatic relations with 194 countries, has strategic or comprehensive partnerships with 45 partners, participates in 70 important international organizations, and has risen to become an upper-middle-income country after 40 years of Doi Moi.

Vietnam is aiming for two major development goals: becoming a modern industrialized nation with upper-middle-income by 2030 and a developed, high-income, prosperous, and happy country by 2045.

Amidst the many global changes, the Ambassador emphasised that Vietnam continues to adhere to a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development; prioritizing dialogue and resolving disputes based on international law and the United Nations Charter; supporting equitable and equal multilateralism with the United Nations playing a central role.

Vietnam stands ready to play a bridging role to promote cooperation, dialogue, and increasingly substantive participation in addressing common international community issues. In 2027, Vietnam will celebrate 50 years of joining the United Nations.

Regarding Vietnam-Austria relations, Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang affirmed that this is one of Vietnam's important relationships in Europe. As they approach the 55th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations in 2027, the two countries have significant potential to deepen cooperation, especially through high-level delegation exchanges and party, parliamentary diplomacy, science and technology cooperation, innovation, trade and investment, skilled labor education, culture-tourism, and local cooperation.

The Ambassador also highly appreciated the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Austria, considering it an inseparable part of the nation and an important bridge in strengthening friendship, understanding, and cooperation between the two countries.

In their speeches, leaders of the Austrian Parliament and Government highlighted the positive achievements in the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Austria over the past 54 years; they also highly valued Vietnam's role and significant contributions in promoting cooperation between Austria and ASEAN.

The Austrian side expressed admiration for Vietnam's outstanding socio-economic development achievements in recent years and noted that the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Austria still holds much potential and room for further deep, substantive, and effective development.

Austrian agencies affirmed their continued active contributions to strengthening and deepening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially those with mutual strengths, shared interests, and potential for cooperation, while enhancing people-to-people exchanges, thereby contributing to the increasingly substantive and sustainable development of Vietnam-Austria relations.

The presence of numerous Austrian friends, diplomatic representatives, international organizations, and the Vietnamese community in Austria created a warm, friendly, and close-knit atmosphere.

The 81st National Day celebration not only provided an opportunity for the Vietnamese community in Austria to connect with their homeland and take pride in the 81-year journey of building, defending, and developing the country, but also contributed to enhancing understanding, friendship, and ties between the Vietnamese and Austrian people and international friends.

Through this, the image of a peace-loving, stable, dynamic, culturally rich Vietnam, proactive in integration and ready to cooperate for peace and sustainable development, continues to be spread in Austria and the multilateral diplomatic centre of Vienna.
