A new milestone in Vietnam-Slovakia relations
In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Slovakia Pham Truong Giang emphasized that for every Vietnamese citizen, September 2 is not merely a significant national holiday.
It is a sacred historical milestone, marking a new chapter in Vietnam's journey—a journey of struggle for independence and freedom, recovery, and nation-building, while gradually rising to build and develop a stronger Vietnam.
Over more than eight decades, despite numerous challenges and profound transformations, with self-reliance, resilience, and the aspiration to rise, Vietnam has achieved significant accomplishments in national construction, modernization, and international integration.

Today, Vietnam is an increasingly dynamic and confident member of the international community, actively contributing responsibly to peace, cooperation, and sustainable development in the region and globally.
The year 2026 holds special significance for Vietnam-Slovakia relations. During the official visit to Vietnam by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico last April, the two countries elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership. This historic milestone reflects a high level of political trust and mutual understanding nurtured over decades, while opening up broader cooperation opportunities that align with the needs and aspirations of the peoples of both countries in the new phase.
The Ambassador expressed confidence that the two countries will more effectively utilize existing mechanisms, expand trade and investment cooperation, and connect businesses and localities. The potential for Vietnam-Slovakia economic cooperation remains vast, with the best outcomes yet to come. Vietnam identifies Slovakia as an important partner in Central and Eastern Europe, contributing to promoting cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union.
Regarding the Vietnamese community in Slovakia, the Ambassador noted that although not large in number, they have strongly demonstrated resilience, diligence, adaptability, and have made positive contributions to the host society, fostering friendship between the two nations.
The Ambassador particularly appreciated the young Vietnamese generation—those who have grown up in a multicultural environment, carrying knowledge, confidence, and a desire to contribute; affirming that the Vietnamese community, especially the younger generation, are “cultural ambassadors” and a sustainable bridge connecting Vietnam with Slovakia.

Speaking at the ceremony, Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár, on behalf of the Slovak Government, extended warm congratulations to the State and people of Vietnam on the occasion of the 81st National Day; acknowledging Vietnam's increasingly important role on the international stage and as one of the growth drivers of Southeast Asia.
According to Minister Blanár, Slovakia-Vietnam relations are not only built on a foundation of traditional friendship but are also increasingly developed through active political dialogue, economic cooperation, and close ties between the peoples of the two countries.
The elevation of relations to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Robert Fico's visit to Vietnam is not just a political statement but also a long-term commitment to deepen bilateral relations, transforming trust between the two countries into concrete results that bring tangible benefits to the peoples of both sides.
Slovakia wishes to expand opportunities for Slovak goods and investments in Vietnam, while creating conditions for Vietnamese businesses to enhance their presence in Slovakia. Both sides have significant potential to promote cooperation in nuclear energy, smart energy, defense industry, water resource management, transportation, digital transformation, automation, medical technology, education, research, and skilled labor exchange.
The year 2026 also marks 70 years since the first Vietnamese students went to Czechoslovakia to study. Over generations, the Vietnamese community has been respected and recognized as a valuable part of Slovak society and a solid bridge for friendship between the two nations and multifaceted cooperation between Slovakia and Vietnam.
The Slovak Foreign Minister also thanked Vietnam for supporting Slovakia's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2028-2029 term and for strengthening relations with ASEAN; affirming that Slovakia wishes to become a reliable partner of Vietnam in Central Europe.
