Celebrating 76 years of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations in Chongqing

WVR - On the evening of January 21, in Chongqing, China, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Chongqing solemnly organized a ceremony to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2026).

Attending the ceremony, on the Chinese side, were Wang Wen, Director of the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office; Li Mingquan, Deputy Director of the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office; along with leaders and officials from various departments of the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office and Yuzhong District Foreign Affairs Office. On the Vietnamese side, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long and all staff of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing were present.

In his speech at the ceremony, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long highlighted significant milestones in the bilateral relations over the past 76 years, particularly between Vietnam and Chongqing. He recalled the years when the people of both nations stood shoulder to shoulder, supporting each other in the revolutionary cause of national liberation and the development of each country. He emphasized the profound friendship of being “comrades and brothers” between the two nations.

Consul General Bui Nguyen Long stated that the past 76 years have proven that continuously strengthening and developing Vietnam-China relations aligns with the fundamental and long-term interests of both peoples. It holds significant importance for the sustainable development of both countries, as well as for peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

Recently, cooperation between Vietnam and Chongqing in various fields, especially in economy, trade, and investment, has grown robustly. Vietnam is Chongqing's largest trading partner in ASEAN. The Consul General suggested that both sides continue to work closely to promote friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation between Vietnam and Chongqing, ensuring strong, stable, sustainable, and effective development in the future.

Within the framework of the celebration, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long also introduced Chongqing friends to the 14th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, highlighting its significance, context, orientations, overarching goals, specific tasks, and breakthrough solutions to lead the country into a new era.

In his remarks at the ceremony, Wang Wen, Director of the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office, warmly congratulated the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He emphasized that this is a significant political event for the Party, State, and people of Vietnam, marking a new phase of development for Vietnam with important strategic orientations. It aims to comprehensively and synchronously promote the renewal process, strengthen national unity, ensure political and social stability, vigorously advance socio-economic development, and improve the material and spiritual life of the people, steadfastly progressing on the path of socialism. He expressed confidence that under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the country will continue to achieve new and greater accomplishments, successfully implementing the resolutions of the 14th Congress.

Director Wang Wen expressed that over the past 76 years, the Vietnam-China relationship has withstood challenges and grown stronger, gaining valuable experiences. Under the strategic guidance of the top leaders of both Parties and countries, Vietnam-China relations have entered a new era.

Director Wang Wen emphasized that the Chongqing government highly values its relationship with Vietnam, noting that Vietnam-Chongqing relations are continuously developing and deepening. In the coming time, the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office will continue to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing to effectively implement the common understanding of the high-level leaders of both Parties and countries, elevating the relationship between Chongqing and Vietnamese localities to new heights, contributing practically to building a Community with a Shared Future of strategic significance.
