Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung meets Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong

WVR - On September 23 (local time), in New York, within the framework of the High-Level General Debate of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat and Acting Foreign Minister of Vietnam Le Hoai Trung met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

Delighted to meet again, both sides affirmed that the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is in a positive development phase, with significant progress across all areas, from politics, defense, and security to economy, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung emphasized that the recent state visit by Australia's Governor-General Sam Mostyn (September 9-12, 2025) marked an important milestone, further strengthening strategic trust and deepening bilateral relations. Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung suggested that the two countries continue to concretize and implement agreements and commitments, while exploring expanded cooperation in science and technology, innovation, and education and training.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong congratulated Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung on his new position, affirming that Vietnam is a top important partner for Australia in the region. Foreign Minister Penny Wong expressed a desire for both sides to continue close cooperation to effectively implement the new partnership, especially in priority areas such as green economy, digital transformation, clean energy, and climate change response.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts in promoting the Australia-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and agreed with Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung's proposal to enhance cooperation within the ASEAN framework and the Mekong sub-region cooperation.

Both sides also agreed to continue close coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, while exchanging views on a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern.
