On September 11, during her working visit to Italy, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang held a meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Maria Tripodi.

Expressing her pleasure at meeting Deputy Minister Maria Tripodi again after the Political Consultation meeting in January 2025, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang praised the positive developments in Vietnam-Italy relationship since the last meeting. She urged both Foreign Ministries to continue close coordination to enhance extensive and effective cooperation, including organizing exchanges at all levels, promoting cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, and actively implementing signed agreements.

Sharing the view that both countries have significant potential to further strengthen cooperation, especially in economic, trade, and investment sectors, Deputy Minister Maria Tripodi appreciated the robust growth and stability of Vietnam's economy.

Deputy Minister Maria Tripodi affirmed that Vietnam is a key partner for Italy in ASEAN and will promote Vietnam-EU relations, as well as support Vietnam in ensuring product standards for sustainable entry into the EU market.

Both sides agreed to maximize opportunities from the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), aiming to double their trade exchange in the coming years and become gateways for each other's goods to penetrate the EU and ASEAN markets.

Deputy Minister Maria Tripodi agreed with Vietnam's proposal to urge EU countries to soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and to lobby the European Council to lift the IUU yellow card for Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang appreciated the recent visit by Italy's Deputy Minister for Enterprises and Products, Valentino Valentini (September 4), and the successful organization of the Vietnam-Italy Business Forum in Hanoi, attended by 200 Vietnamese and over 50 Italian businesses, showcasing the significant potential and demand from the business communities of both countries in promoting trade and investment activities.

The two sides exchanged views on several regional and international issues of mutual concern, agreeing to continue close coordination and mutual support in international forums, especially at the United Nations, ASEAN, and the EU.

Regarding international and regional issues, including the East Sea, both sides emphasized the role and importance of international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), in resolving disputes through peaceful means, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the region.
