As a joint effort between Vilico - an affiliate of Vinamilk and Japan’s diversified conglomerate Sojitz, the complex sprawls over 75.6ha in Tam Dao, made up of a beef cattle farm accommodating 10,000 head and a chilled beef processing plant with an annual capacity of 30,000 head, or 10,000 tonnes of product.

It is expected to commence operations in 2024 with chilled beef products using Japanese technology under the brand name Vinabeef.

Mai Kieu Lien, CEO of Vinamilk, said it is the first project in investment and cooperation plan between leading Vietnamese and Japanese corporations in high-tech agriculture. The project includes cattle breeding and beef processing, with a total value of up to 500 million USD signed in the end of 2021 to develop cattle breeding and beef processing using Japanese technology in Vietnam.

It is also the biggest deal signed by the two companies in Japan under the witness of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the Vietnam-Japan investment promotion conference 2021.

Masayoshi Fujimoto, President of Sojitz Corporation, said this is a promising and key project of the group in Vietnam for at least the next 5-10 years.

The project will operate in a 4-in-1 closed process, from livestock farming to production, processing and distribution.

The process starts with a natural farming model where the beef cattle are raised in ecological farms that meet the GlobalGAP standards with the best in animal husbandry techniques and advanced technology.
