On the afternoon of January 8, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang briefed domestic and international journalists, as well as representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Vietnam, on the country's foreign affairs achievements in 2025.

According to Spokesperson Hang, looking back at 2025, Vietnam achieved significant and comprehensive results across most sectors. There were breakthroughs in streamlining, mergers, and institutional policy directions. Vietnam's economy made remarkable strides, with the latest statistics showing an 8.2% GDP growth in 2025. This places Vietnam among the world leaders in economic growth. Import and export figures reached a record high of over 930 billion USD. National defense, security, and social order continued to be strengthened.

“This is a very high effort by the entire political system to achieve the goals set by the 13th National Party Congress and towards the 14th National Party Congress, expected to be held in a few days,” Pham Thu Hang stated.

In 2025, Vietnam's foreign affairs and diplomacy also achieved many significant accomplishments. The year was marked by vibrant foreign activities: 75 bilateral foreign affairs activities by Vietnam's key leaders, a 1.5-fold increase compared to 2024, yielding substantial results and establishing important political frameworks, visions, and orientations for Vietnam's foreign relations.

On the multilateral front, Vietnam continued to demonstrate responsibility and strong commitment by actively participating in the pillars of multilateral institutions, especially the United Nations, ASEAN, APEC, and sub-regional mechanisms. The country continued to contribute to addressing common challenges, proactively proposing initiatives to serve the common interests of the international and regional community, and participating in many international and regional leadership and management mechanisms.

A significant highlight was Vietnam's successful organization of numerous multilateral foreign activities, such as the ASEAN Future Forum, the P4G Summit, and the opening ceremony for the signing of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, thereby affirming Vietnam's role, position, and leadership capacity.

Regarding Vietnam's economic achievements, realized foreign direct investment (FDI) reached 27.62 billion USD, a 9% increase compared to 2024, marking the highest level in the 2021-2025 period. Investment projects have improved in quality, with a focus on key areas. Science and technology diplomacy became a spearhead, concentrating on innovation, digital transformation, and green transition.

In Vietnam's achievements, cultural diplomacy, external information work, citizen protection, and the affairs of Vietnamese people abroad cannot be overlooked. These are the aspects that contribute to Vietnam's soft power. Over the past year, UNESCO recognized seven new titles, bringing Vietnam's total UNESCO titles to 77.

In terms of citizen protection, Vietnam acted promptly with the principle that the safety and lives of citizens are paramount. “According to our statistics, the number of questions and answers regarding Vietnam's citizen protection work is almost the highest,” Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang shared.
