Vietnamese U21s to compete in 48th Toulon Tournament

During the announcement VFF Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan stated that since 2015 the VFF have been working to create optimal conditions for young teams to take part in training camps abroad ahead of their participation in important regional and international tournaments.

He added that by competing in the 48th Toulon Tournament, the Vietnam U21 side is likely to become a platform to discover new talent who will play for the senior national team during the course of the next three to four years.

The international competition is widely considered to be the most prestigious friendly tournament that involves the participation of U-21 teams. Previous versions of the event have seen an array of future stars showcase their talents, including Thierry Henry of France, Rui Costa of Portugal, and Alan Shearer of England.

This year’s event is set to see 12 teams from around the world take part, with Vietnam, Australia, and Japan being Asia’s representatives.

The occasion will serve as a warm-up for the Vietnamese side as they prepare for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2021 which will be held in the country.
