Vietnamese in Southwestern Germany send their hearts home

WVR - In the warm atmosphere of solidarity, the Vietnamese community in Southwestern Germany has come together to raise funds to support compatriots in Vietnam severely affected by the recent storms and floods.

The fundraising program, supported by Huong Viet Magazine, the Vietnamese Association in Freising, the Munich Passion Group, and the Vietnam-Germany Association in Schwaben, received widespread participation from the Vietnamese diaspora in Germany.

Through bank transfers and direct contributions at an event held in Freising on October 19, the total amount raised reached 6,650 Euros and 26 million Vietnamese Dong – a figure embodying the profound affection of expatriates for their homeland.

Mr. Dinh Van Nghia, representing the organizing committee, shared: “Every contribution, no matter how small, carries deep love for the homeland. We hope this support will help flood-affected residents overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives soon.

All funds raised are transparently disclosed and delivered directly to affected residents through reputable channels in Vietnam.”

Beyond material value, the fundraising activity is a vivid testament to the spirit of solidarity, compassion, and the sense of origin of the Vietnamese community in Germany – individuals who, despite being thousands of kilometers away from their homeland, always cherish the image of Vietnam, where cultural roots and Vietnamese humanity are preserved.

The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations – a significant milestone in the journey of cooperation and friendship between the two nations.

In celebration, Huong Viet Magazine, with active support from the Vietnamese Association in Freising and the Vietnam-Germany Association in Schwaben, has organized a series of cultural events to promote Vietnam's image to German friends.

Mr. Pham Khanh Nam, Editor-in-Chief of Huong Viet, stated: “Event series like the Sommerfest, Brechtfestival 2025, and Vietnamese film screenings, each program carries the essence of the homeland, from the traditional áo dài, the taste of phở, the sound of village festival drums to the gentle smiles of Vietnamese people. Through these, the Vietnamese community not only showcases the beauty of national culture but also strengthens Vietnam-Germany friendship, creating a sustainable cultural exchange bridge between the two countries.

Amidst the busy life abroad, the spirit of “remembering the source” remains an invisible bond connecting Vietnamese people to their homeland.

Fundraising events, festivals rich in national identity, or simply a word of support for compatriots in distress – all reflect the deep love for the homeland of the Vietnamese community in Germany.

Through practical and humane actions, Vietnamese abroad not only spread the spirit of compassion but also contribute to glorifying the name “Vietnam” in Germany – where they are both integrated citizens and cultural ambassadors of their homeland.
