Vietnam proposes hosting the 14th General Assembly of Asian political parties

WVR - From June 24-28, the 45th Standing Committee Meeting of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) took place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, with the participation of 22 political parties from 17 Asian countries, all members of the ICAPP Standing Committee.

The delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam, led by Ngo Le Van, Member of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Minister, participated in activities within the framework of the meeting.

At the opening of the meeting, Sodbaatar Yangug, Secretary-General of the ruling Mongolian People's Party, and Chung Eui-yong, Chairman of the ICAPP Standing Committee, affirmed that the meeting was held amidst unpredictable geopolitical shifts, economic disruptions, social polarization, and the emergence of global issues such as climate change. These challenges necessitate enhanced solidarity and understanding among political parties and effective ICAPP operations.

Besides organizational directions, the meeting focused on the governance and application of artificial intelligence (AI) by political parties in fostering social consensus and national development.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van, head of the Vietnamese Communist Party delegation, emphasized the values of dialogue, trust-building, and cooperation for peace, stability, and development that ICAPP promotes amidst profound international changes. He affirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam values party diplomacy and strengthening relations with regional political parties, including through multilateral party mechanisms.

On this occasion, the head of the Vietnamese Communist Party delegation announced the proposal to host the 14th ICAPP General Assembly in Vietnam in 2028, reaffirming the commitment to actively and responsibly contribute to ICAPP's activities.

The ICAPP leadership and Standing Committee members welcomed the proposal from the Communist Party of Vietnam, considering it a significant milestone to further enhance ICAPP's role and cooperation among Asian political parties. It is expected to be officially announced and approved at the 13th ICAPP General Assembly at the end of 2026.

At the special session of the ICAPP Standing Committee themed "Transforming Asia in the Digital Era: AI Challenges", the head of the Vietnamese Communist Party delegation highlighted that AI is becoming a key factor in shaping economic growth, social progress, national competitiveness, and global governance.

Countries effectively leveraging AI will have additional opportunities for breakthroughs, while those left behind may face widening development gaps. Therefore, AI is not just a technological issue but a strategic priority requiring effective governance, international cooperation, shared responsibility, and the involvement of political parties, governments, businesses, academia, and citizens.

The Deputy Minister affirmed that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and in line with the spirit of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo, Vietnam identifies science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key drivers for national development in the new era, with AI playing a crucial role in promoting innovation and sustainable development.

In this spirit, Vietnam proposes enhancing dialogue, building trust, cooperating in research, developing human resources, improving digital capabilities, and supporting developing countries to integrate more deeply into the global AI ecosystem.

On the occasion of attending the ICAPP Standing Committee meeting in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van held bilateral meetings with Sodbaatar Yangug, Secretary-General of the Mongolian People's Party.

Both sides updated strategic directions and new development visions for each country, as determined at the 14th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the 31st Congress of the Mongolian People's Party. They shared the view that the traditional relationship between the two parties is a solid foundation for further developing bilateral relations, with economic cooperation being a key pillar.

At the meeting with Chung Eui-yong, Chairman of the ICAPP Standing Committee, the head of the Vietnamese delegation highly appreciated ICAPP's position and influence, as well as the efforts of the Chairman and ICAPP Secretariat. He also suggested that both sides continue to closely coordinate in preparing to host the 14th ICAPP General Assembly.

The activities of the delegation continue to demonstrate a proactive role in multilateral party mechanisms, contributing to promoting cooperation among Asian political parties and preparing for deeper and more effective contributions of the Communist Party of Vietnam within the ICAPP framework in the future.
